Team Liquid preferred wayne over mindfreak
A new rookie is joining Team Liquid. Young player Wayne "wayne" Chang is joining the most recent European champions, sources tell Sheep Esports. This is the second offseason pickup for Team Liquid after the arrival of Dominykas "MiniBoo" Lukaševičius as previously reported by Sheep Esports.
As a professional player for a very short time, wayne has never played in the VCT before and will therefore be playing his rookie year with Team Liquid. A choice that might seem surprising from the European team that was also considering Aaron "mindfreak" Leonhart, but TL still decided to trust a rookie for the role.
The new hero of TL?
At 18 years old, wayne is a young and relatively inexperienced profile who spent his first two years in the VALORANT Challengers League, notably in the Southeast Asia region. He spent the majority of his 2025 season with Motiv Esports. He also achieved very satisfactory results as his team won split 2 and split 3 before qualifying for the Ascension Pacific.
However, the team struggles to make an impact in the tournament and is eliminated by Nongshim RedForce, finishing in fourth place. The Singaporean player still has a good tournament in terms of statistics. He mainly alternates between the roles of smoker and duelist between games of Omen and Yoru.
A new recruit for Team Liquid as they continue their reconstruction. Despite winning Stage 2 and being the number one seed for Champions, Team Liquid failed to make it out of the Group Stage. As a result, the club saw its player Georgio "keiko" Sanassy join NRG while Nikita "trexx" Cherednichenko and Patryk "paTiTek" Fabrowski were given the right to explore their options for next year.
With this new addition to the team, Team Liquid hopes to take a step forward on the international stage. Although he could take on the role of controller, Wayne's profile is also aggressive and he is capable of playing duelists. A role that MiniBoo and Kamil "kamo" Frąckowiak should already be competing for next year.
Team Liquid's reported roster:
- Dominykas "MiniBoo" Lukaševičius
- Ayaz "nAts" Akhmetshin
- Kamil "kamo" Frąckowiak
- Wayne "wayne" Chang
- TBD
