Melzhet led KOI to Worlds in the past two years
A long-term deal in a generally short-term ecosystem. Tomás "Melzhet" Campelos Fernández is set to re-sign with Movistar KOI in the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), with a contract running until the end of 2028, according to Sheep Esports sources. The head coach was originally signed through 2026 and will now see his deal extended by two additional years.
At 31 years old, Melzhet has established himself as one of the top coaches in the LEC. After joining KOI in 2024, his rise has been meteoric: in his first year, the team qualified for Worlds by a narrow margin, followed by a 2025 season in which they won the Spring Split and secured their second consecutive Worlds appearance.
Melzhet, the Spanish alchemist
KOI clearly sees Melzhet as the cornerstone of their project, going beyond the role of a traditional head coach. The organization is even willing to accommodate his requests, such as establishing another academy focused on the Spanish circuit to continue developing talent. Melzhet’s influence will extend to every major decision KOI makes in League of Legends, positioning him as a key figure whose impact surpasses that of a standard coaching role.
Before that, Melzhet was with Movistar Riders as well as G2 Arctic, where he already had David "Supa" Martínez García and Álvaro "Alvaro" Fernández del Amo under his leadership. The connection between Melzhet and Supa goes even further back, with the two having never parted ways since 2019. More recently, in 2024, the three joined KOI and Javier "Elyoya" Prades Batalla to build the project that is still ongoing today.
A New Coaching Staff
Aside from Melzhet’s contract extension, the rest of the coaching staff will undergo changes. Quentin "Zeph" Viguié is leaving the KOI ship to join Karmine Corp, Bjørn-Vegar "Hansen" Hansen is also out of KOI’s coaching staff. On the arrivals side—and as previously reported by Sheep Esports—Melzhet will be joined by Barney "Alphari" Morris and Eric “Independent” Ruiz Bogurina. The team is also set to retain its entire roster for 2026, as announced by Ibai Llanos on stream.
Movistar KOI's reported roster for 2026:
