There are only LCK and LPL teams remaining in the tournament
It's over for Europe during these Worlds 2025. After achieving the best run for a LEC team since Rogue in 2022, G2 Esports exits the competition after this quarterfinal loss 1-3 against Top Esports.
In a match with the air of revenge after the first game won by Top Esports in the Swiss stage, G2 was unable to tip the scales in their favor despite constantly improving gameplay during these Worlds. Top Esports reaches the second semi-finals in their history after those of 2020.
An early game battle
In the first match, despite G2's desire to play around their comfort champions, TES responds well by securing kills in the early game. With an all-in teamfight composition around Lin "Creme" Jian's Akali (11/2/6), the Chinese team quickly throws G2 off their game, who fail to recover, only managing six small kills in total. TES suffocates the LEC champion and takes the first game.
But the samurai do not get discouraged and come back in form in the second part. With a large domination from Steven "Hans Sama" Liv and Labros "Labrov" Papoutsakis from the early levels, G2 implodes TES's botlane. Despite the attempts from Top Esports' topside, the Europeans manage to snowball and come back to even in the confrontation.
In the third game, G2 once again started on the offensive and applied early game pressure, notably with Caitlyn and a Renekton for Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik. But TES does better, thanks in particular to a Wenbo "JackeyLove" Yu on fire with his Ezreal, which definitely turns the match in TES's favor after an aggressive dash in on the midlane leading to two kills and a third dragon for TES. G2 completely collapses and Top Esports rolls on to give themselves two match points.
Hit but not annihilated, G2 chose a new early composition with a Draven for Hans Sama and a Syndra for Rasmus "Caps" Winther. But despite an early cash out recovered on the Draven, G2 sees its lead collapse during an attempt to reclaim the Atakhan. The fault lies notably with Creme's Viktor, imperial in this BO, who made life difficult for G2. The game completely shifts after a good engage attempt by Labrov followed by Rudy "SkewMond" Semaan, but it ends in a clean ace for TES. G2 will have tried everything, but TES logically wins 3-1 given the overall match.

G2 will surely regret some mistakes made during this match that seemed within their reach. That will still not take away from their great run, which is better than last year. On their side, Top Esports, the first LPL team to qualify for the semi-finals, will wait to see the winner of tomorrow's match between T1 and Anyone's Legends to know their opponent on Sunday morning. A possible rematch against T1 could motivate all the players on the team, or a battle between LPL teams in China could also make fans dream for one of the two to bring back the Summoner's Cup to LPL.
