Who will take the sixth spot?
With just four matchdays remaining in the LEC Spring Split regular season, playoffs qualification scenarios are narrowing, and some teams are now with their backs against the wall. This Sunday, GIANTX gave themselves a glimmer of hope at the expense of Team BDS, who are now all but eliminated. Meanwhile, G2 Esports rediscovered their early split form, crushing Team Vitality 2-0 in a dominant performance that leaves Vitality’s playoffs hopes hanging in the balance.
Team BDS played what is likely their final match of the split this Sunday. Their second loss of the weekend almost certainly seals their place among the bottom four in the standings, meaning their split is effectively over. Ilias "nuc" Bizriken reacted with frustration on X after the match, saying he couldn't understand why he and his teammates hadn't been able to improve since the start of 2025.
The midlaner pointed to numerous squandered early-game leads as a key issue. Head Coach Yanis "Striker" Kella, known for stepping up when expectations are low, also admitted this split has been a failure. Still, he looked to the future and stated they will "find a way to become BDS again". Despite the disappointment, the BDS roster has sometimes shown real potential.
A Special Win for GX and Noah
Their downfall gives GIANTX more reason to believe. If they win their final match next week against Team Heretics, they have a shot at grabbing that coveted sixth spot. Today's win was especially emotional for Oh "Noah" Hyeon-taek, who paid tribute in the post-match interview to his grandfather, who passed away just three days earlier. Noah honored him with a stellar performance. The team has continued to improve toward the end of the split, building on their strong showing at last week's roadshow in Madrid.
Rudy "SkewMond" Semaan and his G2 teammates left no room for doubt. As is often the case, when G2 has a rough week, they bounce back the next with a vengeance. Vitality were the unfortunate victims this time, utterly dismantled by the Samurai. This show of force puts Vitality in a tough spot in the overall standings. If they want to make playoffs, they’ll need to impress next weekend in Evry’s Arènes, where they face Karmine Corp and SK Gaming. G2, meanwhile, can breathe a bit easier—their fourth win almost guarantees them a top-six finish. They'll also take on KC and SK in France next weekend, hoping for better results than in Madrid and aiming to secure at least one more win.
On Monday, the pressure shifts to Heretics, who could lock in a top-tier finish by beating the powerhouse Fnatic in a best-of-three. The day’s second match features Movistar KOI versus SK Gaming, a clash that could qualify one team and virtually eliminate the other.
