Four 3-0, three of them for LFL teams
The french touch drips a bit as it is even cruder than usual… With 3 clean sweeps, the LFL hitted the jackpot for this first part of the round of 16 in the EMEA Masters. The playoffs of the competition that assembles the best national teams of League of Legends in the region has just started and the level disparities seemed still elevated enough to make it look like an healthy walk for Team GO, BK ROG, Karmine Corp Blue and Los Heretics. As both of these teams qualified for quarter finals, they setted one more milestone on their road to Munich after they each 3-0’d their opponents.
The two biggest surprises - as there was still no real “upset” - came from Team GO and Los Heretics. Indeed, for KCB there was no much doubt they would come on top of Schalke 04 which moreover wrote their last piece of history on the LoL competitive scene and still gave it their all, as they even pulled out their secret Jax support pick. For BK ROG too, even if they were coming in as LFL 5th seed they still had the upper hand on an Entropiq team that didn't fall short of the mark during the competition (4-1 on the Swiss Stage), especially after they hard dominated the Hitpoint Masters. But this time, the bar was too high as they faced off a way more experienced team overall.
TCL in trouble, German champion out
For GO-Dark Passage and Los Heretics-Unicorn of Love Sexy Edition, the two series were on paper very balanced. But TCL is proving increasingly disappointing after their first seed (Papara SuperMassive) had to go to round 7 of Swiss stage to qualify and now, their second seed, which seemed in a better shape, just got eliminated in a stunning 3-0 by LFL’s fourth seed. SUP will now be TCL's last hope as they will directly face one of the favourites to win it all: Geekay.
Super Liga’s 1st seed was also put against Prime League’s 1st seed on the undoubted match of the day. And yet again, USE showed nothing but struggles, in the image of their complicated Swiss Stage. USE did not meet expectations as they failed to even take one game on an Heretics team that didn’t show the best gameplay neither during the previous stage of the competition. Let’s hope the next day will put us through more adversity, as for the first time, Riot Games dared try a round of 16 in a playoffs format that they could have good reasons to regret…
