Gen.G Mobil1 Racing has announced the departures of Christopher "
MaJicBear" Acevedo, head coach Gregory "
RawGreg" Alex, and assistant coach Kevin "
Kevpert" M ahead of an expected offseason rebuild around Kenneth
"frosty" Walz. The Korean organization, which operates its
Rocket League division in North America, announced the departures following the conclusion of the
Esports World Cup. The trio competed under the organization from November 2024, qualifying for four RLCS LANs, including the 2025 World Championship. Despite making moves for Finlay
"rise." Ferguson, frosty and Jordan
"Evoh" Manley in
RLCS 2026, results took a downturn over the season culminating in the team’s narrow failure to reach the 2026 World Championship.
Rawgreg joined Optic Gaming as coach alongside Retals and MaJicBear, having been a long-time bubble player in the League Play Era. The 32-year-old developed a unique philosophy to the game with his analyst and eventual assistant coach Kevpert, who he recruited to Optic Gaming in 2023. Retals and MajicBear became key components of this new style of play, buying into the system over the years. The coaching duo followed the team to Luminosity Gaming and then Gen.G in 2024, coaching MaJicBear for over four years of his RLCS career where they appeared at six RLCS LANs together. Their departure from the organization signifies a significant change in direction and puts the coach pairing into unrestricted free agency
for the first time since they joined Optic Gaming.
After the departure of CHEESE at the end of RLCS 2025, Gen.G decided to put their faith in a European import, rise. The Englishman joined MaJicBear and the experienced, Justin "jstn." Morales, making for an exciting proposition heading into RLCS 2026. The roster got off to a strong start, earning a top-four finish in Open 1, qualifying for the RLCS Kick-off Weekend where they lost 1-3 to Team Vitality, exiting in 7th-8th. However, these results would be the highlight of the season for Gen.G. Two 9th-12th finishes in Open 2 and Open 3 meant the organization failed to qualify for the Boston Major, ranking sixth in North America. This was the first time Gen.G had missed an RLCS Major since they entered in the esport in 2022.
Gen.G parted ways with jstn in March to bring onboard 18-year-old frosty, an ex-prospect who had established himself in the RLCS with Spacestation Gaming and Complexity. While results slightly improved in Split 2, the roster found it difficult to compete with the best, missing the Paris Major with another sixth place ranking. The organization made a second change in an attempt to reach the 2026 World Championship through the North American LCQ, adding Dignitas professional Evoh in place of rise, who returned to Europe. A strong showing in the LCQ, propelled the team to the grand final where they were soundly beaten 1-4 by FUT Esports, featuring former teammate jstn. A Stage 2 exit in the EWC LCQ brought the season to a close for Gen.G on August 10, who now have many months to prepare for RLCS 2027. Gen.G CEO
Arnold Hur confirmed on twitter that the organization was not “done with Rocket League” despite these departures.
