On Sunday,
Los Ratones’ elimination from
LEC Versus generated widespread discussion on social media following the final day of competition. Despite entering the day with a 90.6% chance of qualifying, Marc "
Caedrel" Lamont’s team
ultimately became the last squad eliminated from the playoff race. This outcome stemmed from their loss to
Team Vitality, combined with a sequence of unfavorable results, most notably
Karmine Corp’s defeat to
Team Heretics.
Heading into the penultimate match of the day, a victory for Karmine Corp would have directly sent Los Ratones and G2 Esports to the playoffs, while a loss by the French organization would qualify Fnatic and Team Heretics instead. Already guaranteed first place in the LEC standings, KC fell to Team Heretics, who secured their own qualification in the process. From that point onward, Los Ratones’ only remaining path to the playoffs was a Fnatic victory over G2 Esports. Fans quickly realized that this outcome was unlikely and that LR’s fate had effectively been sealed earlier.
Match-fixing accusations
Defeated surprisingly despite having shown strong form in recent days, KC’s loss deeply frustrated Los Ratones fans. Compounding the situation was the reaction of KC owner Kamel "Kameto" Kebir, who was seen laughing about the prospect of a major draw being eliminated, which did little to ease tensions. In a post on X published after the match, Kameto expressed mock frustration over his team’s defeat. On top of that, the fans were almost celebrating the defeat of their team which added even more frustration from LR fans.
This prompted a wave of insults and threats from some members of the Los Ratones community, who accused KC of match-fixing, while KC supporters, conversely, celebrated the potential elimination of LR. The situation escalated into renewed hostility between the two fanbases, continuing a pattern seen repeatedly since the start of the season. Caedrel himself made no accusations toward KC, even as parts of his community directed harsh criticism at certain members of the organization.
Kameto stated that he did not care which team was eliminated and advised viewers to ignore abusive comments, while Caliste "Caliste" Henry-Hennebert also reported receiving insults on Kameto's stream. Overall, the episode brought a surge of toxicity over the course of a single evening of competition, though it ultimately had no impact on the final outcome of the regular season.
