Sources: APA released from Team Liquid ahead of the 2026 season

Team Liquid have decided to part ways with their midlaner Eain “APA” Stearns ahead of the 2026 LCS season, sources tell Sheep Esports on Wednesday. This move follows a string of offseason changes for the organization, including the departure of two coaches and long-time toplaner Jeong “Impact” Eon-young.

After a disappointing 2025 season, Team Liquid appear to be entering a full rebuild phase. The team has yet to finalize a new midlaner but is actively exploring the market, with particular interest in South Korean talent — a trend seen across multiple LCS teams this offseason.

On APA’s side, his future remains uncertain following his release. However, the midlaner has already begun exploring opportunities both in the LCS and abroad, with sources indicating he is open to offers from the LEC or CBLOL.

APA joined Team Liquid’s LCS roster in 2023, breaking through from the academy system and quickly becoming one of the league’s most recognizable personalities, known for his outspoken nature and in-game trash talk.

During his tenure, APA achieved remarkable success — winning two LCS titles and the LTA 2025 Split 1, while representing Team Liquid at multiple international tournaments. His standout performances earned him the LCS Finals MVP (Spring 2024) and the Most Improved Player Award that same year.

The 2025 season, however, told a different story. Struggling with consistency and rumors of burnout, Team Liquid slipped in form, finishing 6th in LTA Split 3 and missing both MSI and Worlds — a stark contrast to their prior dominance.

APA’s departure marks the end of a major chapter for both the player and the organization. As Team Liquid sets its sights on rebuilding for 2026, this offseason will be the first time since his promotion to Tier 1 that APA heads into free agency without the Liquid jersey. His release is expected to be one of the more impactful moves of the offseason, opening up an already wide midlane market through Europe and North America.
