This is a mighty move for
Team Heretics. Alfonso “
Mithy” Aguirre Rodríguez is returning to Europe as an assistant coach with TH after five years in North America, spending time with Cloud9, 100 Thieves, and most recently FlyQuest. His last stint in Europe dates back to 2020, when he served as head coach of Fnatic at just 25 years old.
This fairly late move in the offseason was not really expected, as Heretics’ coaching staff was already composed of Jonas “
Hidon” Vraa as head coach and Emre “
Arkhe” Akpınarlı as assistant. The Spanish organization will therefore have a fairly extensive coaching staff to support their new roster.
A World-Class Coach
Heretics have secured the services of a coach with invaluable experience. Mithy will begin his seventh year as a coach, a career that started in 2020 when he was immediately promoted to head coach of Fnatic after a long career as a support player. In his first year, he reached the LEC finals twice—both times losing to G2 Esports—and made it to the World Championship quarterfinals.
He then joined Cloud9 in the LCS as an assistant to Kim “
Reignover” Yeu-jin before returning to the head coach role, participating in two Mid-Season Invitational tournaments and two Worlds, while winning the LCS twice.
In Summer 2024, he joined FlyQuest as part of Erlend “Nukeduck” Våtevik Holm’s coaching staff, where together they built one of the most dominant rosters in North America. They won the LCS/LTA three times, competed at MSI, and most notably had a memorable Worlds 2024 run, pushing Gen.G to a Game 5 in the quarterfinals.
A Key Addition for Heretics
For the 2026 season, Heretics’ coaching staff already consists of Hidon and Arkhe. In a recent team presentation, during which Sheep Esports had the opportunity to interview Hidon, the Danish head coach admitted that drafting isn’t really his strong suit, that it’s more Arkhe’s domain, while he focuses on building team culture and gameplay.
The addition of Mithy can only be a positive for this roster thanks to his experience; he will be the most senior and seasoned coach on the staff. This move wasn’t reported by Sheep Esports, as we had no idea about it.
