In search of more convincing results after a disappointing start to the season,
Gen.G Esports are set to make two roster changes ahead of
VCT Pacific Stage 2. According to sources close to
Sheep Esports, the organization is preparing to promote Kim “
RaxcaL” Min-seok from its academy system now that the player has turned eighteen. Sources also indicate that Kim “
Efina” Nak-yeon is expected to join the active roster.
These changes would result in the benching of two current members of the lineup: Kim “Lakia” Jong-min and Kim “ZynX” Dong-ha. Lakia had rejoined Gen.G following a break from competition during the 2025 season, while ZynX entered VCT Pacific as an eighteen-year-old rookie. However, with the team's performances falling well short of expectations, Gen.G has been compelled to make adjustments in hopes of securing a place at Champions later this year.
A replacement for Ha "Ash" Hyun-cheol was also considered by the organization, with trials having taken place, but without success, sources tell Sheep Esports.
An opportunity to change the dynamic
The season got off to a difficult start, with the team managing just a single victory during Kickoff. Matters only worsened during Stage 1, where Gen.G finished at the bottom of its group. Despite those struggles, the team's performances during the Esports World Cup Qualifier offered some signs of improvement. The Korean side secured victories over FULL SENSE and T1, but ultimately fell short on two separate occasions in its attempts to qualify for the main event.
In an effort to strengthen the roster, Gen.G are placing their trust in two players with distinctly different profiles. Efina competed in VCL Korea last year with T1 Academy before joining X-CAST for Split 2 this season. An experienced player specializing in Initiator agents, he is expected to fill the role currently occupied by Lakia.
RaxcaL, meanwhile, is a Duelist who was already part of Gen.G’s academy system. Having celebrated his eighteenth birthday on June 16, he has now become eligible for promotion to VCT competition. He is expected to replace ZynX, who has alternated in recent months between a secondary Duelist role and Sentinel duties but struggled to make a significant impact during his first stint in VCT Pacific.
