This is the first major upset of the Rocket LeagueParis Major. On Thursday, Manchester City dominated reigning world champions NRG (3–0) to secure first place in Group B. The European seed 5 has thus guaranteed itself a spot in the upper bracket semifinals and will finish no lower than top 6 in the competition.
A few minutes after the match, William “ejby” Ejby Lorentzen, who is competing in his first Major, spoke with Sheep Esports about this decisive and somewhat unexpected victory.
You just defeated the reigning World Champions. Did you expect to go 3-0 and defeat the reigning world champions over these first two days?
William "ejby" Ejby Lorentzen: “Sweeping NRG is pretty unreal. We actually felt somewhat confident going into the match, but that win feels really nice. We’re top 6 now instead of top 12. I’m super happy.
This is your first time at a Major. Does that make this result even more special for you?
ejby: I’m really happy about it, especially because of our performance in Copenhagen during Open 1—things didn’t go too well in our first game and we got reverse swept in the best-of-seven.
I’m really happy that we can all prove ourselves, especially accro (Aston Smith) and I. Since Seikoo (Enzo Grondein) has so much experience, everybody already knows he’s so good, so I’m really happy that we could prove ourselves as well.
How is playing with Seikoo as a veteran helping the team, especially in terms of leadership and comfort in your first Major experience?
ejby: He’s very calm, but also energized when we play. Overall, he brings a lot of calmness to the team experience. He’s also really good at identifying mistakes and problems in the team so we can easily adapt and fix things.
What do you think this win over the reigning world champions means for the rest of the tournament and the expectations going forward?
ejby: Shout out the casters, not a single one of them said that we would beat them. It’s all good though. Hopefully we’ll get them to support us for the next games.
What are your expectations going forward?
ejby: This won’t really change things. We’re still just gonna be like semi chill about our chances. We don’t want this win to get to our heads and make us too overconfident. That can be one of the worst things you can be. So we’re just gonna keep calm, keep cool and just take it one game at a time.
What was your personal goal coming into this Major, and what did you want to achieve?
ejby: I just really wanted to make it to the bracket stage so that we could play in front of the crowd, especially since both my parents and stepparents are coming. I just really wanted to play in front of them—especially with such a huge crowd. I’m super happy.
Are you excited about playing in front of the French crowd, and what are you expecting from the atmosphere?
ejby: It’s gonna be so fun. I’m super excited. The atmosphere will depend on matchups. Having Seikoo will probably put the crowd on our side. Everybody loves Seikoo. And well, if we’re against one of the French teams, hopefully we’ll have the other two French team’s fans on our side then.
If you had to compare each player in your team to a football player, who would they be?
ejby: Okay, right. [Pauses] I think for Seikoo I would say KDB (Kevin De Bruyne), even if he doesn’t play anymore. He can just do anything.
I’ll be your Rodri (Rodrigo Hernández), because I’ll just be a rock. Not as goal-threatening, but I’ll do everything well.
And then accro… I’m kind of torn, because I can put him as an aggressive player, so like a Jérémy Doku, but I could also say a Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Your Twitter profile picture is a burger. Why that choice?
ejby: I just thought it was funny. I didn’t know what to have as a profile picture, so I just thought of a burger.
Do you think “67” is the peak of humor in 2026?
ejby: Basically, but we’re gonna be introducing a new number soon in the walkouts. It’s the 76. I’m only gonna show it in the walkouts.
What are your thoughts heading into the bracket tomorrow, and the potential matchups ahead?
ejby: From what I could tell, we’re gonna play probably against Twisted Minds or Shopify Rebellion. And then it’s gonna be KC and Gentle Mates as well. It’s gonna be two super fun games. I feel pretty confident going into bracket regardless of who we face. So I think I’m just gonna enjoy it.”
