The arrival of support Han “Way” Gil to Team Heretics was only the first part of the deal. Also coming from Misa Esports, AD Carry Byeon "Hype" Jeong-hyeon has signed with Team Heretics until 2028, sources tell Sheep Esports. However, unlike Way’s deal, Hype will not play for Team Heretics during the Spring Split.
Instead, Team Heretics will let Hype play Misa Esports the upcoming Spring Split, allowing him to continue competing for his former team in the TCL and in EMEA Masters. Meanwhile, current Team Heretics AD Carry Yoon "Ice" Sang-hoon will remain in the LEC.
Securing a future botlane
The move is designed to secure Team Heretics’ future botlane. Both Hype (contract until 2028) and Way (contract until 2027) have signed multi-year deals with the Spanish organization. After his spring split with Misa Esports, Hype is expected to join Team Heretics in the LEC by the Summer Split—or, at the latest, in 2027.
For the Summer Split, it has not yet been decided which of Hype and Ice will start in the LEC. If Ice finishes the year with Heretics, Hype could play the Summer Split for Team Heretics’ academy team in the Spanish League (LES), or he might even be loaned to another ERL team.
While both players won’t immediately reunite in Team Heretics’ starting roster, they are part of the same $70,000 package deal with Misa Esports.
Hype’s early signing is reminiscent of NAVI’s acquisition of Enes "Rhilech" Uçan after last year’s Spring Split, which allowed him to skip a season before debuting in the LEC in 2026—a move that has proven successful, as other teams attempted but failed to acquire Rhilech during the 2025–2026 offseason.
At the end of 2026, all LEC AD Carries except Ice will become free agents under their current contracts:
- David "Supa" Martínez García
- Caliste "Caliste" Henry-Hennebert
- Oh "Noah" Hyeon-taek
- Elias "Upset" Lipp
- Steven "Hans Sama" Liv
- Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság
- Park "Paduck" Seok-hyeon
- Lee "SamD" Jae-hoon
- Josip "Jopa" Čančar
As Ice may also have to complete his mandatory military service in South Korea next year, Team Heretics made a preemptive move to secure their AD Carry position for the future.
Hype challenges Ice once again
This isn’t the first time Ice and Hype have been linked to the same organization. In 2021 and 2022, both played for Liiv SANDBOX Youth in the LCK CL, although Ice saw significantly more stage time. Now, their paths cross again, with Hype potentially set to replace him, while Ice may return to Korea for military service.
In 2023 and 2024, Hype and Way played together for KT Rolster Challengers in the LCK CL, completing a golden run by winning both splits and the Asia Star Challengers Invitational 2024.
They were voted best botlane of the year alongside Yoo "Zinie" Baek-jin and Ham "HamBak" Yoo-jin, now competing in the LCS, and Shin "Casting" Min-je, who has since been promoted to the LCK with HANJIN BRION. Soon, the entire roster should be competing at Tier 1 level.
Career paths diverge
In 2025, the botlane duo went their separate ways. Hype joined BRO on loan, a challenging year for him, while Way was promoted to KT’s main roster but later benched in favor of Jeong “Peter” Yoon-su. He spent the rest of the year in the LCK CL, though with limited success.
At the start of 2026, both players were linked to multiple teams and wanted to play together again. They eventually landed in
EMEA, specifically in Turkey with Misa Esports, where they delivered a strong split—finishing first in their group and advancing to the final.
That performance secured them a spot at EMEA Masters Winter, which will serve as the Phase 1 qualifier for the Esports World Cup.
