There was to be no miracle for
. The
LCP's second seed suffered its second defeat in as many days, this time at the hands of
Team Liquid. Swept in both of their matches, the squad endured a difficult start to what was the first international tournament in the organization's history, despite avoiding
T1 in the Play-In Stage.
Although the elimination was a disappointing one, it also provided valuable experience for a young roster. Following the match, Deep Cross Gaming's midlaner, Kuo “
” Bei-yi, spoke with
Sheep Esports about the team's international debut and what they will take away from the experience.
What is your first feeling after the game?
Kuo "HongSuo" Bei-yi: “I feel like we still have a lot of things to work on with our basic skills, and the team's team spirit was not very good. I am a bit regretful about this experience, so yeah, it's quite a shame.
Your team is the first one to be eliminated from MSI. Did you feel like there was a big level difference between you and the team you played against?
HongSuo: Yeah, definitely. I think a lot of other teams have more experience. They're more mature. They have a more stable play style. We, on the contrary, made a lot of mistakes. So there's a lot for us to learn from.
Your team had a lot of great early games, but you couldn't capitalize on it. What's the reason for this, according to you?
HongSuo: The problem mostly comes in our mid to late game. We still have a lot to improve when it comes to team fighting, and during these team fights, our positioning. And also when we're playing on the side, it's really easy for us to get caught or to get ganked, so yeah, there's still a lot for us to reflect on.
You still went from playing in PCS a few months ago to an international competition now. What do you think you can work on to match the teams internationally?
HongSuo: I think first of all, we need to kind of make improvements to our laning phases. A lot of times, we can have advantageous matchups, but we still lose lane at the end. And also another thing is kind of mid to late game, team fighting, and just in general how we run the late game kind of synergies.
Did you have to scrim or practice against different teams from other regions during MSI? What did you learn from this experience?
HongSuo: We mostly scrimmed non-Korean teams, but we still did learn a lot when it comes to team fighting as well as some tips specifically for jungling as well.
Is there any team that you've been playing against, whether it's in scrims or in officials, that particularly impressed you?
HongSuo: In the matches, it was probably
(
Kang Yea-hoo) and Karmine Corp. I was surprised by how well they are using the Cassiopeia and Vi synergy. It gave me a lot of trouble, thinking about how to take care of that. And also, I started to think more about how I should specifically counter this specific mid and jungler synergy.
If you had to pick one positive point from this MSI journey that will be helpful for you and your team for the rest of the year, what would it be?
HongSuo: We have been doing really well at maintaining the early tempo of games. However, when it comes to mid and late games, we still have a lot to improve, or when it comes to our personal mechanics and reducing our mistakes during the games.”
