It would have been difficult to predict this outcome after the opening week of the
LEC Versus. Following an 0–4 start, virtually everyone had written
Los Ratones off as the bottom team of the standings. Yet this Sunday, after their victory over
G2 Esports, Marc "
Caedrel" Lamont’s squad returned to an even record by securing
a fourth consecutive win.
This is now the longest active win streak in the LEC and the longest of the season so far, tied with
Karmine Corp.
While the first two victories against Team Heretics and Shifters largely stemmed from opponents’ mistakes, Los Ratones raised their level of play this week. Against
Movistar KOI and then G2 Esports, they imposed their own style and thanks to huge performances from Tim "
Nemesis" Lipovšek and Simon "
Baus" Hofverberg, they claimed two statement wins over the league’s most recent champions.
A spectacular and unexpected victory
Beyond the immediate impact, these two wins place the two-time EMEA Masters champions firmly in the playoff race. Currently in a virtual qualifying position, Los Ratones hold a one-win cushion over their closest pursuers—SK Gaming, Shifters, and Team Heretics. The Schroet Kommando will stand in their way next week in what could prove to be a decisive match in the race for qualification.
On social media, fans and figures from across the esports scene reacted to the former NLC champions’ upset over G2. Among them was French streamer and G2 co-caster Jean "TraYtoN" Medzadourian, who expressed his disbelief at Los Ratones’ performance against his team.
As expected, Caedrel erupted with emotion on stream as his team destroyed the opposing Nexus. “That’s one, that’s two, yes, this is reality, Los Ratones have beaten G f*cking 2!” Los Ratones will now have the opportunity to secure their first 3–0 week of the season by defeating NAVI tonight.
