One of the first rosters from Latin America for the
Esports Nations Cup has been selected.
As previously reported by Sheep Esports, the Head Coach of the Mexican National Team, Deam “
Deam" Saavedra, has landed on a roster that unites many icons of the defunct Liga Latinoamerica (
LLA) and a couple of Tier 2 standouts.
Sources state the Mexican roster will be the following:
- Toplane: Edgar Ali "" Bracamontes
- Jungle: Jesús Alberto "" Loya
- Midlane: Iván "" García
- Midlane: Francisco Rubén "" Jara (Substitute)
- ADC: Omar André "" Gavotto
- Support: Guillermo Alfonso "" Navarrete
- Support: Héctor Alejandro "" Godínez (Substitute)
The team was selected after a grueling tryout that included several players with diverse career paths aiming to represent their country. In the end, the selected roster includes some of the most talented and decorated League of Legends players Mexico has to offer. This roster is looking to secure one of the two qualifying slots for North America.
Though Mexico has historically been associated with Latin America, it’s unclear how the Esports Nations Cup committee will divide the national teams across the American continent. Before the unification of Latin America under one single residency, Latin America North and Latin America South divided the region.
While North American teams United States and Canada are expected to earn to the ENC direct qualification thanks to their roster ranking evaluation, the same can’t be said about Mexico. The team is almost guaranteed to play in the qualifiers in June due to its player ranking evaluation. It is unclear right now if Mexico will compete in the North American or South American qualifiers, but in either case, they will need to finish Top 2 of the qualifiers in order to earn their spot at the main event in November.
Offrole and Outliers
Seiya is the player most people would associate with the Mexican League scene. His accolades speak for his incredibly successful and long-tenured career. During the early stages of his career, Seiya was known for his versatility, as he represented LYON Gaming’s original iteration as an ADC or a mid laner. Though Leaguepedia has the record of a brief, seven-day stay in Curse Academy as a top laner, he has never competed as a top laner.
However, the most decorated player in Mexico’s history has been a free agent for over a year. The last competition he participated in was the 2025 LRN’s Split 2 Playoffs with LYON Academy, where he was eliminated in fifth place. The appointed top laner decided to take a break from competition in 20223 before returning with Six Karma in 2024.
VirusFx has a similar situation. A veteran of the Mexican scene with over a decade of experience, he started his career as a top laner before transitioning to an ADC. According to Leaguepedia, excluding one offseason tournament in 2019, he has never competed as a support.
The Present
Three of the seven players currently compete in the 2026 Liga Regional Norte (
LRN) Split 1: Skyy and VirusFx defend
; meanwhile, Gavotto competes with
. Skyy and Gavotto are competing with their respective teams for the second year in a row. These two teams are the clear first and second of the LRN, with hopes of challenging for the promotion slot.
However, the remaining four players are currently free agents or compete in the North American Collegiate scene. In 2025, Leza, one of the two mid laners selected, played for Isurus during the 2025 LTA South Split 3 before the Argentinean team disbanded the following year. Though there’s no official announcement, he seems to be representing Fisher College in the CLoL scene. Leza is expected to serve as Skyy’s substitute in the mid lane.
Grell, the jungler, follows the same pattern as the selected top laner. His last known competitive participation was the 2025 LRN Split 2 playoffs, where he faced teammate Seiya. Grell is known as one of the most mechanically talented junglers from his country and has been grinding solo queue. Before the recent ranked reset, he sat at Grandmaster 1300 LP.
Tyr, the second support player chosen alongside VirusFx and expected to serve as a substitute for Mexico at ENC, last played with Icon Esports during the spring of consecutive years. In both 2025 and 2026, the support represented the Mexican organization for Split 1 of the LRN. For the 2024 Closing season, Isurus enlisted Tyr as a substitute. Gavotto and Tyr, a potential bot lane pairing, have preexisting synergy, as they achieved promotion to the 2022 season of the LLA with Team Aze.
