After announcing his departure from Global Esports on May 3, Thong "
balax" Chern Kwi is expected to join
Bilibili Gaming in
VCT China as an analyst, according to sources close to
Sheep Esports. Already active in China with XLG in 2025, the Singaporean staff member will return to a league he knows well after a stint in the Pacific region earlier in 2026.
Having had small stints as an analyst and coach in the Singaporean local scene, including the Soi Thai Esports mix, he joined XLG Esports ahead of Stage 2 of 2025. With his first real professional organization competing in China’s Tier 1, he helped the team secure fourth place in the final split of the year and, more importantly, qualify for VALORANT Champions Paris.
Arriving in France, the Chinese organization was drawn into Group A, a tough group they could not escape. First defeated by Paper Rex in their opening match, XLG managed a win against Sentinels in the elimination match, before falling in the decider against GIANTX. Following this international run, the club parted ways with balax, who then joined Global Esports in VCT Pacific.
BLG in shambles
In this new league, the Singaporean analyst helped his new teammates and the Indian organization reach, for the first time in their history, the competition playoffs. After a Top 7-8 finish at Kickoff, GE still managed to secure a Top 3 in the Stage 1 group phase and book their place in their first playoffs. It is in this context, and before that stage had even begun, that balax decided to step back and part ways with the project to join BLG, sources tell Sheep Esports.
In his farewell message shared on his X profile, the Singaporean analyst emphasized that "This was not an easy decision" and that he will not forget his time at Global Esports. He also added that he continues to believe in his former teammates, stating "I am confident that they will make an international event," something they have never achieved before.
On the BLG side, he is expected to complete a coaching staff already featuring Tang "
Muggle" Shijun as Head Coach and Wang "
JeXeN" Linxiao as Coach, in a project currently in a complex phase. Fourth at the VCT CN Kickoff, Bilibili Gaming won Act 1 of the China Evolution Series before collapsing during
Stage 1, finishing Top 9-10 with two wins in five matches in Group Alpha.
