discusses his team’s surprise appearance at the event, the lessons learned from their run, and his mindset heading into Summer.
What was your first feeling after today's games?
Jeong "Impact" Eon-young: “Kind of shit, but it's fine. There are some moments when we should have won, but we threw a lot. I played kind of poorly too, especially in the last game.
But the first game against KC, we should have won in my head. How we teamfought and coordinated… we should have won, but I think we rushed the in fights. As for the last game, I guess our mental was just lost.
Against Gen.G, I felt like we found how to counter them. I think if we played a little bit better, we could have won against them. It was close.
What was the difference between facing Gen.G and KC?
Impact: I think Gen.G is easier to beat than KC because, even if they're a strong team in my head, they’re not trying to create plays like KC.
especially, he's moving on the map a little bit faster than other supports. He's leading the map really well. So that's why I think KC is a little bit harder.
But also, I guess draft can be different too. Maybe we shouldn’t have given Jayce to KC.
What was it like experiencing Sentinels' first international tournament?
Impact: I mean... It was alright. Our performance was pretty bad, but it happens. I hope my teammates learn that matchups matter from this—that’s what I took away from this event.
It's really important, especially support matching the tempo and playing towards top side. I mean, AD Carries are playing fucking mages with wave clear every game, though. I hope Riot fixes that shit—it makes the game boring. People want to see 2v2 fights in the botlane.
Right now, even if you’re winning top as well, a slight lead in botlane can give you trouble. They gotta change that.
Why do you think Sentinels performed better in the EWC qualifier than in the LCS?
Impact: We are definitely chokers. That's why we finished fifth, because we were choking. Today I felt like some people... I could see
especially choking a lot. He cannot see the game widely, but that's normal when you aren't experienced internationally, especially when facing good teams. So I hope he can learn from that and get past the pressure because I believe he is a good player.
Overall, it's fine. It's not a bad result for us. The fact that we somehow won the EWC Qualifier to come here and show our rookies what it's like to play against good teams is a good thing. Even though our tournament is over, we're going to try and get some more scrims against good teams before we go back to NA as well.
You mentioned the team tends to choke. What do you think is the main cause behind it?
Impact: I couldn't tell, I don't know. I think everything comes from confidence. People say it's about whether your mechanics are sharp or not, but it's up to the enemy. In my opinion, you cannot say that much. You need confidence no matter how you play. That's what we need the most.
Because in my head, communication comes from confidence. You know how to win the game. You know how to process the situation. That's why I want HamBak to be clear-minded about the situation and not get pressured. I have a hard time understanding why people can reach a point where they choke like that. You're not going to die in real life even if you lose. You feel bad, that's it.
How will this experience help you improve ahead of the next LCS split?
Impact: I think one big thing, especially for this summer, is that I want to challenge myself by playing different styles—especially ranged toplaners. I play some, but not really strong lane champions—like Gnar. So I want to bring more lane-focused ranged champions because I think, in the current meta, toplane especially needs to win lane to counter the opponent, and that gives you more value to carry the game. That's personally what I want to do.
I also need to help my teammates more so they don't get pressured.”
