In an
interview with OSEN published on January 23, Kim "
Peyz" Su-hwan reflected on his arrival at
T1 and his offseason, his new teammates whom he had always wanted to play with, the challenging but ultimately victorious match against DRX, and his impressions of T1 before joining the team.
After a difficult year with JD Gaming in the LPL, the young Korean AD Carry had a very busy offseason, being courted by several teams including T1. Peyz said, “I was approached by several teams. Among them, T1 was the most attractive option, so I decided to join without much hesitation.”
A Shaky BO Against DRX
T1 are currently 3-0 in the Baron Group of the LCK Cup, and although they haven’t lost yet, two of their BO3s went the full three games — first against Hanwha Life Esports, and then against DRX. “Since it’s still early in the season, I don’t think our teamwork is perfect yet. We’re trying out various compositions and continuing to build our synergy. By simulating different situations and experimenting, we’re working to raise our overall level of play.”
There have been games where T1 could have looked shaky, like their second one against KT Rolster, but they managed to come back from over 10k gold down, perfectly reflecting the team’s never-give-up mentality. Peyz highlighted this mindset when talking about how it felt to see T1 from the outside last year versus joining them now:
“The feeling I had when playing against T1 and the feeling I get now are pretty much what I always imagined. But actually becoming a member of T1 makes it even more fulfilling and joyful. The team is very decisive when it comes to finding aggressive angles and starting fights, and the success rate is high. It really made me think again that this is a strong team.”
When T1 Comes Knocking...
Peyz also explained why he chose to join T1 and his desire to play with this roster. With Lee "
Faker" Sang-hyeok being Faker, and having previously played alongside Choi "
Doran" Hyeon-joon at Gen.G, he said: “
Not only Faker, but also Doran who I played with before, Oner (Moon Hyeon-jun
), and Keria (Ryu Min-seok
), the entire roster was great. It’s a team full of players I’ve always wanted to play with, so I didn’t have to think twice, and I happily decided to join.”
T1 still have one more BO3 to play in this group stage on Sunday, January 25, against BNK FearX, before their big BO5 against Dplus KIA on January 31, which will count double in the race for LCK Cup group points. T1 are continuing to adapt to Peyz, and Peyz is continuing to adapt to T1. The team has huge potential and could have a very successful year if they manage to find the right balance that Peyz mentioned.
