After two weeks of competition,
GIANTX have already delivered several strong performances in the
LEC Versus. Fielding the same lineup that closed out last season, the Spanish organization defeated
G2 Esports in Week 1 and wrapped up Week 2 by convincingly taking down
Movistar KOI.
Currently sitting at four wins and two losses, the team has been able to rely heavily on the work of its botlane, with Oh "Noah" Hyeon-taek proving mechanically dominant and racking up MVP awards, alongside a consistently reliable Yoon "Jun" Se-jun. The latter agreed to speak with Sheep Esports about his team’s early-season form, his most recent offseason, and what lies ahead.
What is your first impression after today's game?
Yoon "Jun" Se-jun: "We won today but the last two days, we were a bit messy in the game. We need to fix that for next week. And I think we also should know better what we have to do in the game.
What did your team do wrong against Fnatic?
Jun: When we crossed map, we had to dive or we had to deny it from the enemy toplaner. We should have done that, but we didn't because I think we were just scared about the enemy moving.
You showed a pretty convincing face, but it still seems like your team lacks of consistency. What in your opinion needs to be improved to be more consistent?
Jun: The mid-game is still our team's problem. We are not moving for the others. We are just thinking to ourselves. So I think we need to improve. It can be communication, but I think it's just our game knowledge.
From a personal perspective, what do you think you need to improve to be the best version of yourself?
Jun: I have to tell my teammates what we have to do and what is best for us in the game. I think it's the most important thing for me to do because sometimes we don't know exactly what we have to do.
How do you work personally with Rúben "Rhuckz" Barbosa?
Jun: Rhuckz can see the game really well. He helps us a lot in our 2v2 as he has a really good comprehension of that part of the game. He is really knowledgeable about it and I think he's teaching well.
Where would you rank yourself currently among the best support in LEC?
Jun: I would say I'm top 4 or 5. There is a lot of good supports in LEC. Busio (Alan Cwalina), Labrov (Labros Papoutsakis), Mikyx (Mihael Mehle) and Alvaro (Álvaro Amo) are really good. I think that Parus (Polat Çiçek) improved a lot with NAVI. Stend (Paul Lardin) is good too. I don't really know, every time I see an enemy support, he is just good [laughs].
You decided to remain with GIANTX even though Fnatic showed interest in bringing you back. Did you also want to return to Fnatic at some point during the offseason?
Jun: Yes, because I like Razork (Iván Martín) and, Upset (Elias Lipp) and Vladi (Vladimiros Kourtidis) as well. I wanted to go to Fnatic but our CEO didn't want to let me go [laughs]. I really like Razork because he's a really good leader in-game with great control of the game, and he has a good mentality for the team. That's why I like him, but I am still fine now.
It might be one of your last seasons in LEC before returning to Korea for military service. Is it an additional motivation for you?
Jun: Yes, because after this year, I will probably retire. At least, I want to win LEC, or to go to Worlds with GX, so I just want to play better; that would be my biggest goal before leaving."
