Only eight teams remain, and there is no room for error. The
2026 Esports World Cup Playoffs Stage begins on Friday, July 17, with four back-to-back best-of-three matches featuring the tournament's top Korean and Chinese teams, alongside the rebellious
—the sole remaining Western representative after the
group stage.
The action will continue over the next two days in a
single-elimination knockout bracket, with teams battling for a share of the
$2 million prize pool, including $600,000 for the champions. The tournament will conclude on Sunday with a best-of-five Grand Final, crowning the champions of the third Esports World Cup. As is tradition, the winners will also earn a direct invitation to the 2027 edition of the event.
All matches will be played on
Patch 26.13, the same version used at the
2026 Mid-Season Invitational. The decision was made due to the tournament's proximity to Riot Games' official event in Daejeon, as teams had little time to adapt to Patch 26.14, which was released on July 15, the opening day of the Esports World Cup.

One Last Test Before the Road to Worlds
For the remaining eight teams, the Esports World Cup is about far more than lifting another international trophy. With regional leagues set to resume immediately after the event, it represents the final chance to test new ideas, evaluate roster progress, and measure themselves against the world's best before the race to the 2026 World Championship truly begins.
It is also an opportunity to rewrite the narratives left behind by the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational. Teams that exceeded expectations in Daejeon will look to prove their success was no one-off, while those that stumbled have one last international stage to silence doubts before returning home. For organizations that underwent roster changes or entered the year with lofty ambitions, a deep run in Riyadh could completely reshape how their season is remembered.
Beyond the prize money and the direct invitation to the 2027 Esports World Cup, momentum may prove to be the tournament's most valuable reward. With the Summer Split and Worlds qualification just around the corner, every series offers valuable experience against elite opposition—and a statement that could carry into the final months of the competitive season.
