Lithuania and Romania now stand on top of Eastern Europe. After taking on multiple powerhouses from the region, the two have edged out the competition and earned spots at the 2026
League of Legends Esports Nations Cup.
Arguably one of the most competitive qualifiers due to the proximity in overall team strength, the feats achieved by these two nations are certainly worth celebrating. This is especially true for
Lithuania, who, despite not having an ERL of their own, delivered an undefeated run throughout the regional tournament, finishing 5–0 overall.
Romania, meanwhile, ended with a 6–3 record, with their only losses coming against Lithuania and Hungary.
The road to the ENC main event is still long, but the next step is now clear. Both teams will enter the ENC Play-In this November alongside 22 other nations, including eight directly invited squads. Split into four groups of six, every team will battle through a double round-robin of best-of-one matches, where every game could mean the difference between elimination and glory. Only the top two teams from each group will survive and secure a coveted place in the tournament's main group stage.
Lithuania: No League, No Problems
Often overlooked, Lithuania silenced many doubters during this year's qualifiers. While even greater challenges await in the ENC Play-In, the first hurdle has now been cleared for the underdogs from Vilnius.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is the path they took to get there. On their road to qualification, the Baltic squad defeated both eventual lower-bracket finalists, proving their pedigree against some of the region's strongest contenders. From Kosovo to Ukraine, Romania, and finally Hungary, Lithuania delivered a series of clinical performances, showing little sign of weakness and consistently outclassing their opponents—all without having a domestic league of their own to compete in.
As expected, LEC jungler
played a pivotal role in the team's success. However, one of the biggest surprises of the tournament came from the bottom lane duo of
and
. Despite lacking significant recent ERL experience, the pair proved instrumental in Lithuania's run and repeatedly stepped up when their team needed them most.
Beyond the results themselves, this qualification marks a significant milestone for a country that has historically struggled to establish a foothold on the international League of Legends stage. The last time Lithuania enjoyed major international relevance dates back to Worlds 2013, when GamingGear.eu—fielding a fully Lithuanian roster—competed in the tournament's group stage. More than thirteen years later, a new generation has emerged to put the Baltic nation back on the map.
Romania Steps Up
Despite a worrisome loss to Lithuania in their third match, strong like the Carpathian Mountains, Romania rose back to the occasion in the lower bracket, eventually winning out against Hungary after a close three-game match. Funnily enough,
, Romania’s jungler, is a bi-national Romanian and Hungary, and played both for and against his home countries at the same time.
On their way to finals, Romania took multiple games against LAtvia, Serbia, and North Macedonia. That said, the squad came close to elimination rather early on, notably against Serbia who put up a valiant effort and nearly forced Romania to an early lower bracket fall in round 2. Still, the squad remained largely on top of their match-ups with the exception of the undefeated Lithuanian and the strong Hungarians in the grand finals.
What’s next?
Lithuania and Romania have earned their tickets to the 2026 ENC Play-In, where a far greater challenge awaits. Beginning on November 21, the two nations will test themselves against some of the strongest teams in the world, carrying with them the momentum of impressive qualification campaigns and the hopes of their respective scenes.
