GIANTX's season continues to be plagued by setbacks. As the team prepares for their third
VCT EMEA Stage 2 Group Stage match against Eternal Fire this Saturday, the organization announced on Friday afternoon that it had mutually agreed to part ways with Cihan "
musz3kk" Göçer. The Turkish player had been signed ahead of Stage 2, but after failing to secure a solution to his visa issues, GIANTX were ultimately unable to bring him to Berlin for the remainder of the split.
Following the decision, the organization has opted to retain Adam "Jesse" Čtvrtníček on the active roster for the rest of the season. The Czech player initially joined as a stand-in during the opening week of Stage 2 and will now remain with GIANTX through the end of the year.
Another setback for GIANTX
The Spanish organization's season has taken yet another difficult turn. After a disappointing Kickoff campaign and a Stage 1 finish outside the playoffs, GIANTX hoped to revive their fortunes by signing two new players, including musz3kk. The team had already lost one of its longest-serving members with Kirill "Cloud" Nekhozhin's move to Fnatic, while Grzegorz "GRUBINHO" Ryczko was moved to the bench. Musz3kk had been expected to take over the Duelist role previously occupied by GRUBINHO, but those responsibilities instead fell largely to Jesse, who has traditionally played as a Controller.
A new opportunity for Jesse
For the Czech player, the move represents his first genuine opportunity to compete in VCT EMEA. Over the past few years, Jesse has primarily played in the VCL ecosystem, consistently representing competitive teams and appearing at EMEA Challengers events and Ascension. Earlier this year, he competed for UCAM Esports Club, where, despite strong domestic performances and two promising EMEA Challengers campaigns, the team failed to maintain that level in Stage 3 and narrowly missed qualification for VCT EMEA Stage 2. Jesse also represented the Czech Republic during the national qualifiers for the Esports Nations Cup. He now earns his opportunity on the VCT stage under particularly challenging circumstances for GIANTX.
