As Season 2 Act 2 approaches on League of Legends, Andrei “Riot Meddler” Van Roon and Paul “Riot Pabro” Bellezza used the latest Dev Update to showcase several features and changes coming in upcoming patches. Among the topics discussed were the future of ARAM: Mayhem, the next skin releases, and the return of Ranked 5v5.
Locke is on his way
The developers began by sharing new information regarding the next champion set to join the game. It has been known for some time that Locke will be the only new champion released in 2026 and that he will be an AP assassin designed for the midlane. Riot had previously indicated that the champion would arrive around mid-year, and this now appears confirmed, with Locke expected to make his debut on Summoner’s Rift in Patch 26.13.
ARAM updates
The team responsible for ARAM: Mayhem also provided several details regarding upcoming changes to the game mode. First, the developers announced the removal of the Trait system, explaining that it pushed players too heavily toward specific Augments, which ran counter to the system’s original intent. Some of its effects, however, will remain in the mode in the form of new Augments.
Ezra “Riot Phlox” Lynn and Eduardo “Riot Cadmus” Cortejoso revealed that 50 new Augments are currently planned, alongside the introduction of “Ability Augments,” which will behave differently depending on the champion using them. As an example, the developers highlighted the “Multishot” Augment on Blitzcrank, which would allow him to hook multiple targets simultaneously.
The developers also announced a new feature that will initially be tested in certain regions, specifically Brazil and Oceania. For 1350 RP, players will be able to purchase the “ARAM Wardrobe,” a 30-day feature granting access to every Epic-tier skin and below released before 2026 in both ARAM and ARAM: Mayhem.
Upcoming skins
Several new skin lines were announced for upcoming patches, including the Sinful Shores collection, which will feature skins for Hwei and Brand, alongside a Prestige LeBlanc skin in Patch 26.12. A High Noon skin is also planned for Locke upon release, as well as for Akshan. Meanwhile, new Broken Covenant skins are scheduled for Aurora, Shen, and Jhin.
In July, alongside a new Victorious skin for Rengar, the long-awaited Worlds 2025 championship skin line honoring T1 will finally be released. Based on the players’ most recent statements, the selected champions are expected to be:
Choi “Doran” Hyeon-jun: Ambessa
Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun: Xin Zhao
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok: Galio
Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyung: Miss Fortune (Prestige, for his MVP award) and Yunara
Ryu “Keria” Min-seok: Seraphine
Ranked 5s returns
The Ranked 5s mode will return every weekend from June 26 through September 6. The objective behind the mode is to offer players a dedicated five-versus-five competitive experience without any rank restrictions within premade groups. Unlike Flex Queue, the mode will only be accessible to full five-player parties.
Addressing the decision to limit availability to weekends, the developers explained that this approach should provide players with a healthier matchmaking environment and shorter queue times.
