With just one week to go until the start of
VCT Americas Kick-Off,
MIBR VALORANT team answered questions from the media at a press conference. With a highly prestigious roster, Erick
"aspas" Santos, Zachary
"zekken" Patrone, and Roberto
"Mazino" Rivas shared their high expectations, acknowledged the pressure, discussed building the foundations of this new
"super team" roster, and more topics.
Question for Roberto "Mazino" Rivas
You're back with aspas and Ian "tex" Botsch, the core that topped the Americas in 2024. How does it feel to be reunited?
Mazino: "Every player brings something different. Having the same core as aspas and tex, like in 2024, works in the server and off it as well. I’m very happy, there’s real synergy.
As a Chilean, how do you feel about Masters Santiago being hosted in your country?
Mazino: I always believed it would happen eventually. I’m happy and eager to get there and play in front of my own crowd.
Last season with KRÜ ended in disappointment. Now with MIBR, a roster that impresses on names alone. What are your expectations?
Mazino: Last year was disappointing overall, but I learned a lot, some of it I can’t really detail. The expectations here are high, not only because of the names. We’re taking it day by day. I’m very happy with this group."
Question for Zachary "zekken" Patrone
How important was Gustavo "Sacy" Ross's (a former zekken's teammate at Sentinels) role in your move from Sentinels to MIBR?
zekken: "It mattered, but it wasn’t the decisive factor. It was great to know Gustavo supported the move and to have him here.
With this super team label comes pressure. How are you handling it? Do you have any specific opponent you really want to face?
zekken: We’re practicing our maps, tightening communication, and focusing on steady improvement. We’re not assuming a super team wins everything instantly; we’re building toward it together, and so far it’s going well. And
Cloud9. I want to beat
Zellsis (Jordan Montemurro) and get up and yell at him; that would make me very happy.

Did you expect this exact roster when the offseason began?
zekken: I didn’t expect this precise lineup at the start, but as the offseason progressed, it made more and more sense. I’m very happy and excited to play with this team now."
Questions for Erick "aspas" Santos
How is your recovery after surgery? And how do you feel moving from a rookie-heavy team to this star-studded roster seeking the titles that eluded you last year?
aspas: "Recovery is going well, everything’s fine. Transitioning from a young squad to an experienced, consolidated lineup is exciting. The expectations are high, and I’m ready to chase trophies with this group.
MIBR had ups and downs last season. Now you’re with zekken and staying alongside Andrew "Verno" Maust and tex. What’s your outlook for the first six months?
aspas: I think it’ll be an excellent year, especially in terms of off-stage work. Everyone here is exceptional to work with, and these first days together have already been very good. For the championships, you can expect ambitions and achievements.
Since your last match at Champions in Paris and through recovery, how do you feel heading into the new season?
aspas: I feel good, and I’m very happy with my teammates. We’re setting foundations and basics as a new team, but I have high hopes for everyone. For the kickoff, fans can already expect a strong showing from MIBR.
If your team were Solo Leveling characters, who would be who?
aspas: One character per player. Mazino is the tank, the big bear. Zekken is Igris, the swordsman. For Verno, I was thinking of the strategist, maybe the mage, let’s say Tusk. tex is Beru for sure. I was thinking of another leader-type for Verno, the strongest shadow, but I can’t recall the name, so Tusk it is.
Two or three years ago, MIBR struggled to compete; last year, you helped take them to their first international tournament. Expectations are now sky-high. What’s different, and what do you expect this season?
aspas: Experience. The players are much more seasoned than last year; that’s the biggest difference. In terms of ceiling, this team’s peak is significantly higher. I’m very excited about what we can achieve."
