LoL - LPL: Wei leaves Bilibili Gaming

Yan “Wei” Yang-Wei is one of the most accomplished players in the LPL. Famous for his time on Royal Never Give Up, the Chinese jungler picked up two international trophies on this team, winning MSI 2021 and 2022. But after joining Bilibili Gaming last year, Wei hasn’t achieved the same kind of success. Now, BLG has announced that Wei is leaving the team, just ahead of their participation in this year’s MSI.

Wei’s departure comes after over a month of sharing BLG’s jungle spot with Yang “Beichuan” Ling. However, since Beichuan joined in April, Wei has yet to come off the bench while Beichuan started. This situation is not unlike Wei’s circumstances for BLG last year when Peng “Xun” Li-Xun played as the team’s jungler as well. Wei had some play time in the 2024 Summer playoffs, where BLG won the championship, but come Worlds, Xun was back in the driver’s seat. It was Xun who played all but three BLG games there, and with Xun, the team made it to the World Finals. Wei was then reinstated as sole jungler, then shared the spot again with Beichuan, and is now out of the team: a truly hectic time in about a year playing for BLG.

Wei’s career is iconic among fans of the international League of Legends scene. Before BLG, he spent over three years on RNG. There, he won the LPL Spring Playoffs and the Mid-Season Invitational in his debut split, then won the same two tournaments the following year. Wei played in several Worlds and was an irreplaceable part of what made RNG so special. Now, that same jungler finds himself out of a team to play for. BLG will be competing at MSI as the second seed for China’s LPL, with Beichuan in tow. Whether China’s legendary jungler will find another team to play for, or a new direction to take his career, is yet to be seen.
