" Hyeon-jun impact and draft decisions, particularly around Twisted Fate into Sylas. Oner also discussed the current jungle meta, expressing a preference for carry champions.
Thoughts on the 2-0 revenge over DK?
Mun "Oner" Hyeon-jun: "Since we lost to DK in Round 1, we really wanted to win this one. I think it feels great that we took it cleanly, 2-0.
What was the key to today's win?
Oner: First of all, I think Doran played really well, and everyone else did too. I think that's why we closed it out so cleanly and quickly.
Why keep Twisted Fate mid against Sylas in Game 1 in a situation where it could have gone top as well?
Oner: We already thought the TF-into-Sylas matchup was good for TF, and since
(Lee Sang-hyeok) is so good on Twisted Fate, we figured it'd be better for our comp overall to go that route.
There was a well executed dive on Caitlyn in game 1, that had an unfortunate ending right after, looking back what could have been done differently?
Oner: There was a small mishap with the Blast Cone, so if we could do it over, I think we'd get a better result. With Rumble showing up, it was actually a bad teamfight for us, but since our top was getting such a big advantage, our mindset was that even trading one or two kills was worth it. I just think if the Blast Cone had gone right, we would've had an even better outcome.
It seemed like Rumble was like perma banned and impossible to play against, yet Doran’s Yorick played really well today against it, Is Rumble still top tier, or is Choi “Doran” Hyeon-jun's Yorick just THAT good?
Oner: I think Doran is just really good even in those kinds of matchups, so honestly we were fine even if he lost lane. But Rumble as a champion just fits into pretty much any comp in draft, so I think that's why it's sitting at such a high tier.
It felt like game 2 was a bit hard to play from your position on Vi, how did you feel playing that one?
Oner: Our early game plan kind of fell through, so it could've been rough. But comp-wise it was such a comfortable comp that even if I died a few times, I still felt like we'd win. And with our players playing so well, I think that's how we got the good result.
Nowadays if we’re honest it seems like not many fun jungle champions come out, do you wish the meta would shift toward a jungle carry meta?
Oner: Honestly, in the current jungle meta, I don't think there are any jungle champions that can really carry. I do wish more carry-oriented champions would show up. Right now it's basically all just champions that help your laners, so it's a bit of a bummer.
What carry champion would you want to play then?
Oner: I used to really love playing Diana back in the days, so if that kind of meta came back, I think it'd be really fun.
Looking back since the start of round 1 to now, how satisfied are you with T1's growth this season?
Oner: We weren't amazing from the start, but as we keep playing, we can all see each other improving, so I think we're all excited about that. I'd say we're about fifty or sixty percent there right now, and if we keep polishing the details from here, I think we'll get even better. So yeah, I'm staying optimistic.
We heard that your agent and best friend Jinsu said he’s actually way better than you at futsal. Do you have an official statement on these allegations?
Oner: We haven't actually played that much futsal together since we became adults, so I think he might've forgotten how good I am. I can't say I'm amazing or anything, but among regular people I'd say I'm pretty decent. I don't think Jinsu is that great, but he has played more than me, so I guess he's a little better at this point.
So originally, you'd say you're the better player?
Oner: Yeah. I think I'm better than him in every physical attribute, but he's just got more experience, so that's where I fall short.
Since we're a global media, you have a lot of international fans. Anything you'd like to say to them?
Oner: We don't just play in Korea. We travel all over for MSI, Worlds, EWC, and wherever we go there are so many people supporting our team. It honestly surprises me every single time. Thank you so much to everyone who cheers for us wherever we go, and to everyone supporting us during LCK too, thank you so much. If you keep believing in us and cheering us on, we'll make sure to show you great play."
