,
is now set to add a third woman to its roster. According to
Sheep Esports sources, 20-year-old Greek toplaner
is joining OUAT and will make her debut in the mixed ERL scene in the coming days.
There, she will compete alongside her new teammates for the first time on Thursday, May 14, before taking part in the
league’s playoff stage beginning May 19, for which the team
has already secured qualification.
Like rym before her, the move
will not affect Owpi’s participation with Vitality Rising Bees in the women’s scene, as she remains scheduled to compete in both the
Equal Esports Cup and the
League of Legends Game Changers circuit starting May 29.
Two Bees venture beyond the hive
It has been a back-and-forth spring season for Once Upon A Team. The team currently sits at 3-3 in the
Road Of Legends standings, with only one regular season match remaining and hopes of securing a top-four finish alongside an upper bracket berth in playoffs. Regardless of the outcome, the roster has already guaranteed qualification to the next stage, though a lower bracket run could prove significantly more difficult, especially with a late roster change.
Since the addition of rym, the team has shown renewed momentum, securing two consecutive series victories before suffering a 0-2 defeat to
Senshi eSports last week. In that context, rookie toplaner
Egemen "Egemen" Örek was informed on Friday that he would be benched effective immediately.
Statistically, the young player struggled to adapt to the competitive environment, prompting Once Upon A Team to explore a new direction heading into playoffs.
Owpi, meanwhile,
peaked at 1706 LP in Grandmaster earlier this year and currently sits at 706 LP, making her the team’s highest-ranked player on the solo queue ladder despite the recent
Apex tier reset. Having already spent the year
working alongside rym under the Vitality Rising Bees banner, the Greek toplaner will enter the roster with some preexisting synergy, even if the transition into a mixed ERL environment represents an entirely new challenge.
A First in ERL History
While the organization has
already broken records this year, the arrival of Owpi will once again push the boundaries of inclusivity within esports. Once Upon A Team is set to become the first team in history to field three women on a roster competing in a mixed EMEA Masters-qualifying league.
Although the road ahead remains a difficult one, the organization now has an opportunity to achieve a landmark result—not only by qualifying for its first-ever EMEA Masters appearance, but by doing so with a roster challenging long-standing norms within the competitive scene.
Though the move represents a major step forward for the growth of women in esports, questions remain regarding its potential impact on Vitality Rising Bees, whose season is set to truly begin soon. With two of the team’s players now competing for OUAT, their focus may inevitably be divided for the remainder of the season—particularly if Once Upon A Team were to qualify for EMEA Masters.
However, before looking that far ahead, the team must
first face ZennIT on Thursday, May 14. Last year’s golden representative of the Benelux region currently sits at the bottom of the standings and outside playoff contention. The match will be
broadcast in French on Once Upon A Team’s Twitch channel, as well as on the competition’s
official Dutch broadcast.
Following that final regular season match, Once Upon A Team will advance to the playoff stage beginning May 19, though the exact schedule will depend on the team’s final placement in the standings.
