El Santo was an icon of the golden ages of Mexican Lucha Libre. His rivalry with Blue Demon peaked in 1953 when the two faced off for the prestigious NWA World Welterweight Championship. Though the luchadores turned the rivalry into an enduring friendship, El Santo always acknowledged his defeat to Blue Demon and never had a rematch for the title.
's own
still has a chip on his shoulder after a poor showing against 100 Thieves ended their season in 2025. The midlaner had a chance for redemption during the
League of Legends Championship Series (
LCS) 2026 Lock-In Losers Bracket Round 2 against
’s new team:
.
In contrast to his Mexican luchador namesake, Saint exorcised his demons and
delivered the Pride the series victory 3-1. The Korean continues to ramp up his momentum during the playoffs and will face Sentinels for the last place at the Grand Finals, where Cloud9 awaits. After his redemption against TL, Saint talked with
Sheep Esports about
’s daring counterpicks, a valuable lesson following their loss against Disguised, his feelings after defeating their scrim counter, and a promise to Latin American fans if he wins the championship.
What are your feelings after a do-or-die series against Team Liquid?
Kang “Saint” Sung-in: “I feel like in scrims we don’t play well against TL. We only lose against them in scrims. This was the scariest game in the LCS, but I feel good because we won against our counter.
Will your path to the final be easier now that you defeated the scariest team?
Saint: I feel like it will be easier than the rest of the series.
Even against Cloud9?
Saint: In scrims, C9 is easier than TL, but in a stage match, I’m not sure. C9 is good when playing in a stage match, and TL is not that good.
How did LYON prepare to draft against TL?
Saint: I don’t know, only my coach knows.
Then, can you share your reaction when Dhokla picked Varus, Irelia, and Vayne?
Saint: First, Varus was fine because he said he was the strongest toplaner at that point. Irelia was also fine because we played her a lot in scrims. Last, I was scared about last-picking Vayne because they had picked Camille and Galio. I thought he was going to die three times before minute 15, but he didn’t die, and it turned out to be a good pick.
At the start of the season, LYON seemed off tempo, but since the start of the playoffs, the team has been playing like a symphony in the Rift. How did LYON change this in three weeks?
Saint: “I think we have a lot of aggressive players, like
(
Kim Min-cheol),
(
Kacper Słoma), and me. It was a bit hard to connect with them because Berserker and I sometimes have too much ego. We know how the game is going, and Inspired informs us where and when we need to fight. Now, we follow this information, and the game is easy.
Your performance during the Swiss Stage raised some doubts among the public. Over the last six games, you have only died six or seven times. Was there any change in your mentality to improve exponentially?
Saint: I always play the same. If I have information, I use it to make the correct decision. I’ve been getting a lot of information from Inspired. Not many things have changed. After losing to
, we learned valuable lessons from the series.
What lesson did you learn from the series against DSG?
Saint: I know what our team wants, what we want to do, and when we want to fight. The thing that changed the most is knowing when the time is right.
How was your communication during Game 4’s Baron fight?
Saint: We weren’t exactly sure where Camille was, but we had a pretty good idea of her location. We were guarding her engage, but she used E+Flash+Ultimate against Ezreal, and I instantly thought this was not a good fight because they had already caught Karma. This was a 4v5, and their engage was good, so I thought we had lost. Lucian was chunked by my Q, and I knew we could kill him if I went in. Camille made a movement mistake, which gave me an angle to land my E. When this happened, I thought we had already won because they had no damage besides Lucian and Camille.
Tomorrow’s match will have you facing your former teammate . Do you have any words for him?
Saint: We will win 100%, but don’t worry, we will go to Brazil together.
Do you know what wrestling is, and who is El Santo?
Saint: Yes, I know.
When will you use a mask from El Santo?
Saint: My team manager told me to wear his mask, but I told him my appearance would look funny if I did. I care about my appearance, so I didn’t.
Could you promise you will wear the mask if you win the split?
Saint: Sure! For the Latin American fans.
An interview by Inspired with Sheep Esports mentioned you’re probably the best mechanical midlaner he’s played with. Is Inspired the best mechanical jungler you have played with?
Saint: I mean, it’s hard to say. I played with
(
Choi Yong-hyeok), and there is also
Sharvel (
Kim Dan-woo) in DK Challengers. I think their mechanics are really good, especially Lucid. I would say Inspired is the second-best mechanical jungler. He is really good at making me comfortable. I think that’s his weapon.”
