On Saturday in a lengthy statement posted on its official account, the
Prime League announced its decision to disqualify
CGN Esports, the team of jungler and streamer Muhammed "
Agurin" Kocak, from the first division of the German league after failing to field a valid roster in four out of five matches. As a result, the team will not compete at the
EMEA Masters Summer Split despite having qualified, will be
relegated to the German second division, and will also face a
financial penalty.
The sanctions taken against CGN are as follows: all of the teamâs season points are reset to zero; they will not participate in either the
Prime League Season Finals or the
EMEA Masters Summer Split; they are relegated to Division 2; and they will also face financial penalties. The league stated that, although severe, this decision was made after reviewing all possible alternatives and was deemed the only fair outcome for the other teams that complied with the rules. The rule applied is straightforward: a team is disqualified if they forfeit two best-of series in a row or after three no-shows.
A Last Chance Qualifier match will be played between AFW and USE to determine who will take the playoff spot left vacant by CGN. Agurin reacted to the leagueâs decision on his X account, saying, âAs with the previous statement, it appears to us that certain relevant information and context have not yet been provided by the league, despite our efforts to clarify these matters together. We are preparing a transparent and objective statement.â
