G2 Hel has done it. After a strong start to the year in Spainâs third
League of Legends division,
G2's women team qualified for the promotion tournament and, on Tuesday, clinched their spot for the Split 3 of the
Liga Nexoâthe 2nd division, just below the Superliga. Rym ârymâ Salloum and her teammates narrowly prevailed in a nail-biting best-of-five series (3â2) against Dream Makers, the eighth-place team from Split 2 of the Liga Nexo. Just a few days earlier, G2 Hel had earned the right to play this decisive match by defeating Sportia Khore in a best-of-three series.
In fact, playing at this level wonât be an entirely new experience for some of the G2 Hel players. The clubâs womenâs roster competed in one split in ERL2 last season as part of the NLC2. However, that participation came by invitation. This time, they have earned their place through meritâby being the strongest team on the Summonerâs Rift. For that reason, G2 Hel may have a stronger chance of performing well this time around, especially considering last seasonâs outcome, when the team finished last in NLC2 with only two wins and sixteen losses.
