Algeria and Tunisia have secured their places at the 2026
League of Legends Esports Nations Cup after topping the Middle East and Africa qualifier this weekend.
By far the largest of the seven online regional tournaments organized by the Saudi Arabian Esports Foundation, the event brought together 31 teams spanning from across Africa to Central Asia, all competing against one another for a spot in the international stage.
Despite the chaotic nature of the competition, which was marred by significant ping disparities due to the vast distances between participants—for example, South Africa and Kyrgyzstan, who faced each other during the event, are separated by roughly 10,000 km—the tournament ultimately concluded with
Algeria delivering a flawless performance, and
Tunisia, who despite struggling against Lebanon, managed to secure qualification with a 6–3 total score.
The two teams will now take part in the ENC Play-In stage alongside 22 other competitors, including eight directly invited teams based on national rankings. Teams will be divided into four groups of six, where they will play a double round-robin format of best-of-one matches within their respective groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the tournament’s main group stage.
Pure Algerian Dominance
Algeria finished the qualifier with a perfect 6–0 record and an average game time of 24 minutes and 41 seconds, including a 15-minute stomp against Cameroon. Led by a mix of promising ERL talent alongside the LEC experience of midlaner
and coach Yanis “
Striker” Kella, the roster quickly established itself as a clear favorite, built with one objective in mind: reach the main event and compete against the world’s best nations.
This achievement carries additional weight given Algeria’s history as a relatively underrepresented region within the broader Arabian League ecosystem. For a scene that has often operated in the shadows of more established nations, this marks the first time Algeria has competed on a national stage of this scale, facing off against some of the strongest teams from across Africa, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
Their only real test during this week’s qualifiers came in the qualification match against Tunisia, where they were pushed to a 38-minute game before narrowly securing game one and closing out the series with a clean sweep in game two. Outside of that, Algeria cruised through the bracket, earning a forfeit win over Iraq and dominant victories against Cameroon, Georgia, and Morocco on their way to the final.
With this result, Algeria now aims to establish itself as one of the strongest regions not only in North Africa, but across the wider EMEA region—and potentially the world. The team will now enjoy a well-earned break before returning to action on November 21st for the ENC 2026 Play-In stage.
Tunisia Claws Back
What began as a dominant run for Tunisia nearly ended in disaster on the final day of the delegation’s campaign. The squad opened the qualifier with convincing wins over Oman, Madagascar, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia to reach the final stage. Outside of a closely contested series against KSA, their path to that point had been relatively smooth, but the final day delivered a harsh reality check.
Despite a strong showing against Algeria—particularly in game one—Tunisia ultimately fell short and dropped into the lower bracket with little time to reset. There, a revitalized Lebanon side came in with momentum and a desire for revenge after their earlier defeat in the upper bracket. After taking the opening game, Tunisia suddenly found themselves in serious trouble, facing a three-game losing streak.
However, the team managed to regroup at a crucial moment, securing two back-to-back victories to turn the series around. With that comeback, Tunisia saved their qualification run and earned a place at the 2026 ENC to represent North Africa.
What’s next?
Algeria and Tunisia will now advance to the 2026 ENC Play-In stage, set to begin on November 21. Until then, both teams will need to sharpen their preparations and build on the momentum from their regional qualifiers, as they gear up to face some of the strongest nations in the world on the international stage.
