FUT Esports are steadily moving closer to their goal of qualifying for the
VALORANT Champions. After showing considerable resilience to overcome
Team Liquid in its opening
VCT EMEA playoff match, the Turkish organization will face another domestic rival,
BBL Esports, this Friday. A victory would secure their place at the end-of-season competition.
Ahead of the upcoming matchup, Efe “s0pp” Tur, who once again delivered a standout performance against TL, spoke to Sheep Esports about his team’s recent performances and their ambitions for the remainder of the competition.
What is your first feeling after the game?
Efe “s0pp” Tur: “It was nice, it was good to bounce back after 3-9. The pressure was high because I was playing like shit. But I think I bounced back pretty well.
What do you think led your team to victory today?
s0pp: We played together so many times, and we trusted each other. And I think that was the main thing.
The first map felt like a stomp at the beginning. Then you managed to come back, how did you manage to turn things around?
s0pp: We just knew what they were going to do. And we just listened to sociablEE (Volkan Yönal) and we stuck together. At the end of the day, we were just killing them, and we won rounds like that.
Your team is the only VCT one that qualified for the playoffs through the Play-Ins. How did that phase feel for you?
s0pp: The Play-Ins were easy, I would say. I don't think we struggled in a game so much. We knew we were going to qualify for the playoffs. We should have qualified for the playoffs from the group stage. But our game against NAVI was so bad. So we had to start with Play-Ins, and now we are in the playoffs. We won our first game, and in the next game, we are going to qualify for Champs.
A lot of other VCT teams were eliminated during the Play-Ins against the Tier 2 teams. Is it actually a chance for your team to have avoided all of them during this phase?
s0pp: We talked about this before the game today. We were talking about the fact we should be playing against Tier 2 teams to see how good they are because we saw Enterprise won today. Three teams qualified; we want to play against them. They are really good at practice. But we want to see how good they are on the big stage. Enterprise was good today. Let's see Fire Flux and Frankfurt.
Did you feel like the absence of your head coach Berke "Vlad" Kantürk impacted your performance today?
s0pp: I don't think it affected us. Bambino (Tyler Jay) was doing really well. I think he's a really good coach. He actually won us to Haven. Because on the halftime, he said, “I want you guys to force buy, if we lose pistol”. And we forced and we won. We won because of him, I would say. So he's a really good coach. I don't think it really affected us so much, but it’s still sad.
To talk about yourself in particular, what do you think about your own performances recently, since the beginning of Stage 2?
s0pp: I still think I'm not playing like on Stage 1. I feel like I'm not really focused on the game sometimes. It happened on Masters London as well, I was feeling so bad. I couldn't really focus on the game. I know I'm trying my best to fix that. I think I'll figure it out. But still, I don't think I really reached my full potential. Because I see my potential, I'm not close to that.
Do you feel like you improved in any aspects of the game with experience since the beginning of the year?
s0pp: I still think I'm playing like how I play on ULF. Obviously, our playstyle changed since I'm in FUT, I was playing the main Duelist. Overall, I think I'm still playing the same. I don't think it really changed anything. Like I said, maybe my playstyle with my teammates, maybe I'm playing more with them.
Is there anything you think your team needs to fix or to improve for the rest of the competition right now?
s0pp: I think we need to trust each other more. We did this on today. I think we trusted each other so much. It went so quickly when we were coming back from 3-9. I even said to my teammates, “it’s going so quick, what's happening?” because it's about trusting each other and sticking to each other. As long as you know your team and you know how good you are, you can just do it together. And at the end of the day, if you shoot your gun well, it's okay.
Your next game will be tomorrow against BBL Esports. How do you feel about this game?
s0pp: I think it's going to be so hype because whoever wins will qualify for Champs. So I hope it's going to be good.
Do you feel like it's going to be a bigger challenge than today?
s0pp: I don't think it's a bigger challenge. I think we're going to play like how we played today. Maybe a little bit more pressure because of qualifying to the Champs. But I don't think we're going to do something else.”
