It is now official, you will
no longer lose League Points (LP) if there is an AFK (Away From Keyboard) player on your team. Previously, a loss with an AFK teammate only resulted in a
reduced LP loss, rather than a full prevention. Riot developer Matt “
Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison confirmed this in a post on Saturday, March 28.
The Lead Gameplay Designer of
League of Legends also stated that work is ongoing on a “
remediation strategy when disruptive behavior occurs and accounting for edge cases.” This suggests that issues such as AFK behavior, win trading, and toxicity should be increasingly punished in the future. However, some players remain skeptical, still questioning whether
MatchMaking Rating (MMR) is affected by these types of losses.
The Aegis of Valor was introduced by Riot Games at the beginning of 2026, rewarding players with either double LP or full protection from LP loss in autofilled games if they achieve a mastery score of C or higher. This effect will now also extend to games where you have an AFK teammate, ensuring you are not penalized.
According to Riot, the conditions to receive LP consolation are as follows: you must be on the losing team and have actually lost LP, meaning that if you are at 0 LP in, Gold IV, for example, you will not gain extra LP. Most importantly, the AFK player must not be part of your premade group. As for the AFK player, they will lose LP not only for the game itself, but also in their next match.
