G2 Esports continue to renew the core of their dominant regional roster. After announcing contract extensions for head coach Josh "
JoshRT" Lee and Trent "
trent" Cairns, the four-time reigning champions announced on Thursday that Nathan "
leaf" Orf has also re-signed with the team through 2028.
Despite a 2026 season in which G2 have once again struggled to find success on the global stage, leaving the organization still searching for its first international title, the team continues to put its faith in the roster that has delivered consistent results in
VCT Americas.
All of G2's players had been set to become free agents at the end of the 2025 season, but the organization had already opted to extend the contracts of most of its roster, with the exception of Jonah "JonahP" Pulice, who was replaced by Andrej "babybay" Francisty. Most of the players initially signed one-year extensions, but this time around, G2 have chosen not to wait until the end of the season before securing the future of their core. Following trent's extension last week, leaf is now the latest player to commit his future to the team. It remains to be seen whether Jacob "valyn" Batio and Alexander "jawgemo" Mor will also renew their contracts in the coming weeks.
Building for the long term
Even though G2 have dominated the region in terms of results since last year, the organization is not currently a VCT partner. The team acquired The Guard's roster after it won VCT Ascension Americas at the end of 2023, allowing G2 to enter the region's top division.
With the partner slot renewal process for next year approaching, G2 Esports could see its status within the VCT change, potentially allowing the organization to establish itself in the league for the long term while retaining the roster that has driven its success since joining the competition.
Like valyn and trent, leaf was one of the members of The Guard roster who made the move to G2. He will therefore continue his pursuit of the one achievement still missing from the organization's résumé: an international title.
