NRG have announced their return to the competitive
League of Legends scene after a year-long hiatus. This time, they will compete in North America’s tier-two league, the North American Challengers League (NACL). This return comes as part of a merger with the organization
DarkZero Dragonsteel, which was already competing in the NACL.
In their statement, the organization spoke about their hope of returning to the LCS through the semi-open league system, with the slot currently held by Disguised after winning the promotion tournament at the end of last year.
NRG also stated that they have already signed the core of their roster and are currently holding tryouts for the remaining roles. The team is also looking for a head coach to lead the roster and has opened applications for the position.
Back Once Again
NRG are once again returning to
LoL. The American organization first entered the scene in 2016 in the NA LCS with players such as Jeong “
Impact” Eon-young and Lucas “
Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen, but the project never really worked out and, after a loss in the promotion tournament at the end of the year, the team disbanded.
In 2023, they made their first comeback in Summer by acquiring the entire team infrastructure of Counter Logic Gaming. After a slow start, the roster managed to clutch the playoffs and win the split, qualifying as the first seed for Worlds. There, NRG were once again clutch, advancing from the Swiss Stage with a 3–1 record after wins over Team Liquid, MAD Lions, and G2 Esports, they lost to Weibo Gaming in the Quarterfinals.
The following year, they managed to retain almost the same roster with names such as Niship “Dhokla” Doshi, Cristian “Palafox” Palafox, and Juan Arturo “Contractz” Garcia, but the team was never able to recreate the incredible success of the previous year, finishing sixth twice in the league before disbanding for a second time.
