After four days of Play-Ins and
securing a spot in the Main Event, the 2026
Mid-Season Invitational will truly get underway this Friday, July 3, with the tournament set to conclude in style on July 12. Playing in a double-elimination bracket and entirely in best-of-fives, eight teams from
League of Legends' five major esports leagues will battle it out over the next ten days in Daejeon, in South Korea.
The winner will earn a direct spot at Worlds, which will be held in the United States this October. Alongside that qualification, a new feature has been introduced for the 2026 season, with an additional Worlds slot awarded to the second-best performing region at MSI. For example, if G2 Esports reaches the Grand Final but falls short of the title, the LEC, Europe's League of Legends championship, would earn a fourth Worlds spot instead of the three originally allocated.
With the Worlds in sight
As the reigning
First Stand champion,
will kick off both its own campaign and the 2026 MSI as a whole with a Bo5 against T1, the three-time defending world champions. After winning CBLOL Split 1, FURIA is set to compete at just the second MSI in its history, opening with a series against LYON, the LCS' first seed.
, winner of the Road to MSI and making its first-ever appearance at the tournament, will take on Team Secret Whales, the team that has dominated the LCP throughout the 2026 season. Meanwhile, LPL's second seed Top Esports faces a tough opening challenge against
, the reigning LEC Spring Split champion and runner-up at the First Stand.
A special Play-In
Over four days, from June 28 to July 1, the MSI Play-In took place, featuring four teams battling for the final Main Event spot. In a one-sided stage that proved difficult to get excited about, with every one of the six Best-of-fives ending in a 3-0 sweep, T1 came out on top after defeating Karmine Corp in the Upper Bracket Final before overcoming Team Liquid in the decisive qualification match. Deep Cross Gaming, the LCP's second seed, was the first team to be eliminated.
