"All of my teammates support me a lot and help me perform this well on stage—we trust each other"
Wolves Esports continue their run at the 2025 VALORANT Masters Toronto with a convincing win over Rex Regum Qeon, the Pacific region’s top seed. Despite entering the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) as underdogs, the team has consistently exceeded expectations and silenced doubters—now securing at least a top-six finish. In an exclusive interview with Sheep Esports, controller Liu "Spring" Chun-ting reflects on the victory, his connection with his teammates, and the future of this rising Chinese roster.
You've now advanced to the second round and defeated the Pacific region’s top seed. How does that feel? And did you expect to make it this far before the tournament started?
Liu "Spring" Chun-ting: "To be honest, at the very beginning of the event, we predicted that we could make it into the playoffs—we thought we could get through the Swiss Stage for sure. Right now, all we need to do is keep going forward, step by step. We have the confidence to go and grab the Masters Toronto trophy.
You picked Ascent as your first map—a map RRQ is known to be strong on. What led you to pick Ascent, especially since it was not a map you were known for prior to the Masters Toronto?
Spring: One reason they were so strong on Ascent was because of Tejo, but now that he's been weakened, it's a different story. After the nerfs, we figured we could take them on Ascent.
Your journey with Wolves has been quite touching—especially since you and Huang "Yuicaw" Yung-chieh were classmates before joining Wolves Esports. What does it mean to come this far with someone so close to you?
Spring: I'm so happy that Yuicaw and I have been able to bring our bond from high school to the global stage. We want to keep going and create more history. We want to win against everyone and keep moving forward.
Does having someone like Yuicaw—who understands you so well—help you perform better and feel more confident, especially since this is your first time traveling internationally?
Spring: Not only him, but all of my teammates support me a lot and help me perform this well on stage—we trust each other. SiuFatBB (Pong Ka-hei), Juicy (Tyler James Aeria), Lysoar (Liang Youhao), and I, we’re all moving forward together. They help me feel confident on stage and enable me to do more.
You've talked a lot about wanting to stay humble and keep that underdog mentality. But with how much you've been winning, people might not see you as underdogs anymore. Will that change your approach at all?
Spring: No matter what position we find ourselves in, we'll always keep this mentality and stay humble. Even if we earn the trophy and win the championship, we'll always strive to learn more in order to earn even more trophies in the future.
With your win, three of the first-seeded teams have now been knocked into the lower bracket. Do you think playing through Swiss helped you reach this level? And do you agree with the idea that being a first seed might actually hurt a team's performance?
Spring: There's definitely a difference—it can affect a team’s form. In our case, we had time to adapt to the pace of the game, the atmosphere of the stage, and everything else through the Swiss stage. I can see how some of the first-seeded teams maybe didn’t have had enough time to prepare for all that. Maybe that's why they've had slow starts.

You're set to face the winner of Fnatic vs. Gen.G in the next round*. Do you have a prediction, and what are your thoughts on both teams?
Spring: Both of them are very strong teams, and no matter who we face, it'll be a tough fight. We'll stay focused on ourselves, keep doing the right things, and try our best to win whatever match is ahead of us. I hope we can beat them.
Any message you'd like to share with the fans?
Spring: I really appreciate all the support from you guys. I’ll keep working hard, keep doing the right things, and try to be better in the future."
