"[This match] was still so much fun though."
Eliminated from the LEC 2024 Spring Playoffs last Monday, Carzzy and Team Vitality are now forced to watch from the sidelines, preparing for the Summer Split. In this exclusive interview, the team's bot laner delves into what went wrong, expectations for the future, and more.
| Unfortunately, Vitality was eliminated from the LEC Spring Playoffs after losing to Fnatic. Carzzy, how are you feeling right now?
Carzzy: "I feel fine because I believe this was the best best-of-five that I've ever played in terms of having fun. I had plenty of fun and, I felt like nobody was scared to make mistakes. There was always a rebound where we could get back into the game. So, for me, it was a very nice best-of-five to play even though I made a lot of bad plays but also good ones."
| How do you feel about your own performance today? With how unchained you guys were, do you feel like the team's macro was lacking in this match?
Carzzy: "I believe our macro isn't really up to par, so we have to work hard on that. Otherwise, I'm happy with ending in the top 4, even though I always aim for first place. I'm happy that with this roster, we could achieve top 4 at least this split, and we are working very efficiently, so I'm looking forward to the next split as well. I think we are going to place even higher."
| Pad told me recently in an interview that Vitality was built with a 3-year plan in mind. Do you see this team ramping up in Summer and even next year? Do you plan to continue with them in years to come?
Carzzy: "Absolutely, I'm confident in that. We still have a lot to work on, and there's so much we're learning every day. It's hard to explain but, there's just so much information, some things that are even hard for our brains to understand. But the players on the team are handling it well and improving significantly and rapidly. So, I believe there's great hope for the times ahead."
| Is the ceiling for you guys in summer 1st place?
Carzzy: "In summer, I believe our main rival will definitely be G2. At this point, I can't say if we'll be able to defeat them, but it's our goal because, in my opinion, apart from G2, every other team is considerably weaker."
| Aside from macro issues, what do you think is the biggest factor that led to your defeat today?
Carzzy: "I believe we played some champions that we hadn't practiced much, so our performances on those weren't as good as they should have been. Therefore, I'd say we have some champion issues in the team."
| I saw your "funny moments compilation" on Twitter. How was the team atmosphere throughout this best-of-five? Did your mentality evolve during it? Are you all able to keep a good mood in losses?
Carzzy: "I mean, that's why I liked this best-of-five because everyone was having fun. At least, I feel like during the game, and no matter how many mistakes we made, as I mentioned before, we were still making jokes and having fun."
"Historically, we've always struggled against Fnatic, and they would often stomp us. We had a mental block against them, so I was happy today that the games were at least winnable, you know? I think if we had played better in the second or fourth game, we could have easily won. If we had executed the macro better from the positions where we were, I'm already proud of that."
| Unfortunately, now that you have been eliminated, what are going to be your immediate plans until summer? Are you going to be working to improve your form, or are you taking a break?
Carzzy: "I'll spend time with my lovely girlfriend, visit my family, and play Baldur's Gate 3."
| Who's your favorite character in BG3?
Carzzy: "I don't know yet. I was saving this game for the off-season so I have no idea about anything yet [laughs]."
| Are you disappointed that you won't be able to attend MSI? Were there some teams you were looking forward to facing?
Carzzy: "I'm disappointed about not going to MSI because it's in China, and opportunities to visit China are rare in life. Also, I'm sad because we won't get to face G2. Although we haven't faced them in a best-of-five yet, we always do well against them in best-of-ones, so I'd like to see how we fare on stage in a best-of-three or best-of-five."
| Are there still some positives to take from this split? Have you had any big realizations as a team or on a personal level?
Carzzy: "The most important thing for me is to maintain mental stability and good mental health while keeping myself physically healthy. When I achieve this and enjoy playing League of Legends, I always perform really well. So, focusing on these things is crucial for me."
| I noticed on stream that you had a lovely mousepad with an anime girl while playing your match today. Can you give us the lore behind that one?
Carzzy: "Essentially, it's from our sponsor XTRFY, and we had to choose a mousepad. This was the only one I liked because it had an anime girl on it, you know."
| Any other thoughts on the match day aside from what we've mentioned?
Carzzy: "Not really, just that the games were really low-quality today. I think that both teams played really badly."
| Not gonna lie, watching that last game, I felt like there were no winners to that one [laughs].
Carzzy: "It felt like everyone played really badly, but it was still a ton of fun, you know? When I don't choke or when I'm in the zone... I just see that the quality of the game is just so horrible. Everyone was doing random stuff and running around. It was probably fun to watch but, I feel like the only hope for international play is G2 at this point. Even then, they might get clapped, to be honest... We'll see."
| Do you think that Fnatic has good odds against BDS?
Carzzy: "I mean honestly, I think BDS might win against Fnatic. I feel like they are playing better than them. They kind of surprised me when they were playing against G2 because they were playing quite well, especially Ice."
| Any words for Vitality fans and your supporters?
Carzzy: "Thank you very much for supporting us throughout these two splits so far and, sorry for the poor performances. Top 4 was the bare minimum, we'll do better."
