Paris hosts record TFT Open
Starting tomorrow, Paris will host the 2025 TFT Open, the biggest open-entry competition ever held for Teamfight Tactics, with over 750 players competing in LAN for a prize pool of 300K USD. From December 12th to 14th, TFT players and fans will gather at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles to take part in an event that celebrates more than the game's esports ecosystem.
This is the first time the TFT Open lands in EMEA after its first two editions were held respectively in Las Vegas and Macao. This tournament is the first major competition played on Set 16, “Lore & Legends,” released just a couple of weeks before the event began.
100K USD prize to be claimed
All matches will be streamed on TFT’s official Twitch channel and on various co-streamers channels. Viewers can follow as the number of competitors reduces until only eight players remain on stage in Paris to decide who will win the Tactician’s Belt and 100K USD prize.
The list of competitors includes well-known creators, streamers, and players from different countries. Local fans will undoubtedly back Karmine Corp’s Double61, Cambizz, and the organization’s co-founder Kameto, all competing in the event. Streamer Sykkuno and community content creator Necrit—who helped Riot build up the lore of Set 16—will also attend and participate in the competition, according to the Paris Open website.
TFT Paris Open format and prizes
The Main Event starts with all 768 players competing in 96 lobbies on the first day. Participants are split into three large groups and will play four games each. In every game, players will earn points for their placement, starting with eight points for finishing first, down to one point for finishing eighth. After four games, the top two from each lobby move forward to the next stage. The next 64 highest scorers across all lobbies also advance.
In total, 256 players make it to Day 2 of the competition. After each round, the participants’ points are reset. Day 2 will have three rounds: round 2 has 256 players, and after three games the top four from each lobby move forward to make 128 players—round 3 does the same, reducing the number to 64.
But in Round 4 the tournament changes to a checkmate format, meaning that when a player reaches 20 points, that player is “in check.” To qualify for the final day, they must win a lobby while in check. But if six games are played and no one wins while in check, the player with the most points advances. After these three rounds, only eight players will remain to play the last day.
The final day of TFT Open has those eight finalists in one lobby, again using the checkmate format. Reaching 20 points puts the lobby in check, but after that, if eight games are played and no one wins while in check, the player with the most points becomes the TFT Paris Open champion.
The top 128 players earn a share of the prize pool, starting with 450 USD for players in places 65th to 128th, moving up through the rankings until the 100K USD for the winner, who will also receive the coveted Tactician’s Belt.
