eKo should be the team's duelist next year
ZETA DIVISION is expected to strengthen soon with the arrival of Yeom "eKo" Wang-ryong, sources tell Sheep Esports. Not very active since the beginning of this offseason, one of the two Japanese teams of VCT Pacific (along with DetonatioN FocusMe) should strengthen after a mediocre year in terms of results.
After a brief stint in VCT Pacific in 2023 with Gen.G, eKo gets a second chance after a successful year with his club NOEZ FOXX in VALORANT Challengers Japan. Another chance to prove his worth after a first experience in difficult circumstances.
A better chance to shine?
Being a player accustomed to the Korea and Japan region, eKo plays his first year in VCT with Gen.G in 2023. A first adventure in the highest league that proves difficult for him. Member of a six-man roster at Gen.G, he plays the Initiator role but is often subbed in or subbed out during BO3s without having the opportunity to show his full potential. He doesn't shine on the scoreboard and ends up being permanently replaced during the Last Chance Qualifier for the Champions.
After that, he returned to VALORANT Challengers Japan, notably with NOEZ FOXX, and took on the role of a Duelist. He particularly shines with Neon, who becomes one of his most-played agents. He finishes third in the season finals of his region and narrowly fails to qualify for the Ascension with his team. Despite this, the Korean player lets his individual qualities speak for themselves and remains the most statistically effective player on his team during the third split.
His qualities attract the attention of a team that has lacked good results this season. ZETA DIVISION has failed to qualify for the playoffs even once during the two stages despite securing two victories in each of the group stages. After a single participation in the Worlds in 2023, the team is struggling to secure a spot among the best teams in the region.
As the organization decided to part ways with its previous Duelist, Kim "TenTen" Tae-young for the upcoming year, eKo is expected to take on that role and attempt to make the Japanese team more competitive next year.
