The event will run from January 9 to 28 and feature 16 players from each region
The historic rivalry between North America and Europe West is a staple of League of Legends esports and is set to take a new turn through a competitive race opposing the two regions. The event will be named "Rivality" - EUW vs NA. Professional players and high-elo streamers from North America and Europe West will represent their respective servers in the event, which is organized by European streamer iReaz and North American streamer Solarbacca.
Running from January 8 to 27, the event will bring a total of 36 players to Summoner’s Rift, 18 from each region, combining pro players and streamers, all competing to earn as many LP as possible, sources tell Sheep Esports.
The goal is to determine which server features the strongest players and the highest level of individual play. Teams will race to accumulate the most total LP, which will begin counting once Master tier is reached. Duo queue will be allowed, as Riot Games has reintroduced the ability to play as a duo at very high elo for Season 16.
€15K on the line, with big names from both scenes
Significant prize money is also at stake. The player who accumulates the most LP over the 20 days will take home €10,000 (around $11,774), while the rest of the prize pool will be distributed among players from the winning region. This format also creates an added layer of individual competition within each region.
Big names from both regions will take part, with streamers and pro players grinding solo queue on stream at the start of the season for fans’ enjoyment. On the North American side, Johnny "Yukino" Dang and Ashkan "TF Blade" Homayouni are among the names that will compete in the event. At the same time, Europe will feature Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski and Alois "Alois" Nelissen, among others. 32 other participating names, including some other popular faces, are expected to be announced before the start of the event.
