Several major Spanish teams pushed for Lastlap to take over
The saga over the organizer of the 2026 SuperLiga has come to an end: it will be LastLap, sources tell Sheep Esports. The Spanish producer will take over after the Liga de Videojuegos Profesional (LVP) stepped down. Several companies were in the running to produce and broadcast the Spanish league, including Webedia, GGTech Entertainment, and LastLap, with the latter ultimately securing the rights. In the final stage of the process were the proposals from GGTech and LastLap, with sources indicating that LastLap’s proposal included Cabal as the company responsible for producing the league.
A few months ago, Sheep Esports reported that 59 LVP employees were placed under a labor force adjustment plan following financial difficulties, as the group owning LVP tightened its belt. Despite these challenges, Riot Games made it a priority to ensure that the Spanish league would continue to operate.
How Will It Work?
At the moment, the only confirmed detail is who will serve as the league’s organizer, which will be Last Lap. In the coming days, the first formal approaches to the league’s teams will be made in their capacity as organizers. We cannot confirm with absolute certainty what roles each company will assume, but all indications suggest that Last Lap will be responsible for commercializing the product (managing aspects such as formats and scheduling, sponsor acquisition, events, etc.), while Cabal seems to handle production (for example, broadcasts and audiovisual content). Both companies are part of ATRESMEDIA, and for now we cannot state with full certainty how they will be structured.
Backed up by SL Teams
Some of the major teams in the Spanish ERL supported Lastlap, providing positive feedback and actively pushing for them to become the organizer. It’s worth noting that the Spanish league remains one of the strongest ERLs in EMEA, featuring teams like UCAM and Barça Esports and LEC academy teams such as Los Heretics, GIANTX Pride, and Movistar KOI Fénix.
Spanish teams have also shown encouraging results at the EMEA Masters: Los Heretics reached the Summer Split final, falling only to Karmine Corp Blue, while in the Spring, Barça eSports made it to the final against Los Ratones.
