The Prime League is currently the main option
G2 Esports are in the process of building an academy team in the European Regional Leagues (ERLs). Multiple sources have shared this information with Sheep Esports after G2 initiated the first steps toward projects that could mark their return to Tier 2 competition.
A collab with NORD
Among these projects, one of the main options under serious consideration involves a collaboration with NORD Esports. In a potential merger, both organizations would join forces to field a team in the Prime League, targeting the German market. G2 Esports are also considering partnering with a well-known German influencer for this project, although its realization will depend on the financial feasibility of the plan. Beyond this partnership, the organization’s goal with an academy is to develop and compete with rising talent in Tier 2, effectively acting as a secondary team to their LEC roster currently competing at Worlds.
NORD Esports are already very active in the ERLs. Since joining the NLC in 2023, the organization made waves in 2025 by embracing the region’s streaming trend and fielding Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski as part of their roster. Additionally, NORD have been organizing several NNO Cups, including a pre-summer event that featured LEC teams such as SK Gaming and Team Vitality. Should their collaboration with G2 come to fruition, the team would move to the Prime League, aligning with NORD’s German roots.
Should they be unable to obtain a Prime League spot, G2 Esports may instead look to compete in another ERL, focusing on a different regional market.
Not a first academy
This would not be G2’s first academy experience. In 2019, the organization partnered with Team Heretics to form G2 Heretics. The next year, G2 Esports partnered with another organization, Arctic Gaming, to form a team in the Superliga for three years. Notably, current Worlds-qualified LEC players Óscar “Oscarinin” Muñoz Jiménez, David "Supa" Martínez García and Álvaro “Alvaro” Fernández del Amo were part of that roster. However, G2 never secured a promotion directly from their academy team during that period.
In the past three years, G2 Esports have not operated an academy. However, CEO Alban Dechelotte revealed on a French show from l'équipe that he previously planned to build one in the NLC, taking advantage of English co-streaming opportunities. For that project, in 2022, he had approached Marc Robert “Caedrel” Lamont and Simon “Baus” Hofverberg to serve as the public faces of the team. Both had initially rejected that possibility, but later joined forces to create Los Ratones — an entirely new team competing in the NLC.
This time, G2 seem determined to return to the ERLs and establish a new academy team. Discussions appear to be well advanced, and Sheep Esports will provide further updates once the project and its roster are finalized.
