Photon played Winter and Spring with Beşiktaş Esports in the TCL earlier this year
Dignitas will retain Kyeong "Photon" Gyu-tae for the 2026 season, sources tell Sheep Esports on Friday. The South Korean toplaner had joined the organization in LTA North during Summer 2025 following Jett Michael "Srtty" Joye’s departure. Photon, before that, spent Winter and Spring with Beşiktaş Esports in Turkey.
Dignitas is currently making several changes to its roster, but Photon will remain as he is re-signing with the team. With one of the lower budgets in the league, Dignitas didn't have the luxury to persue the most attractive players during the offseason. Their second import spot will be used in the support position.
As previously reported by Sheep Esports, Australian coach Simon "Swiffer" Papamarkos is set to join Dignitas as Head Coach for the 2026 LCS season, succeeding Han "Rigby" Earl.
A career abroad
Photon started his professional journey in South Korea with T1’s academy squad. He rose to prominence after capturing the LCK Challengers League title in Summer 2022 and earning the MVP award. His precise mechanics and steady playstyle drew the eyes of European teams, prompting his move to Team Vitality in the LEC for the 2023 season. There, he quickly made his mark, securing an All-Pro toplane selection in Winter and helping Vitality achieve a third-place finish in Spring.
In 2024, following a mixed year with Vitality, Photon joined the Turkish Championship League (TCL) with Beşiktaş Esports for the 2025 season. He competed in two splits without much success, finishing sixth in Winter and fifth in Spring. His time at Dignitas saw similar struggles, with the team placing 7th–8th in Split 3.
