Wunder is back?
From Splyce and Fnatic to G2 Esports, Martin "Wunder" Hansen is among the most talented toplaners the European region has ever produced, if not the best. Most notably, the new SK Gaming player was an integral part of G2 Esports’ historic 2019 run, during which the team won every trophy possible, including MSI, but ultimately fell short of the Golden Road with a Top 2 finish at Worlds.
A legacy built on talent and trophies
Despite this success, Wunder was often memed for not taking practice seriously, frequently playing World of Warcraft or even picking Yuumi toplane in scrims. In official matches, he is also remembered for the now-iconic “what is happening?” message, typed mid-game and revealed through Pro View.
In 2024, Wunder joined Team Heretics in what was hoped to be an exciting new chapter alongside former teammates Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and Luka “Perkz” Perković. However, the project failed to meet expectations, with the team never finishing higher than sixth place in the LEC.
For 2025, Wunder remained on Team Heretics’ bench and did not play a single official match, even turning down an offer from Ruddy Esports in the NLC, avoiding the wave of former LEC pros entering the league.
A return ahead of 2026
To the surprise of many fans, Wunder is set to return to the LEC in 2026 with former teammate Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. While the move has been criticized by some as yet another attempt at assembling a “retirement home roster,” Wunder appears to be taking SoloQ practice seriously once again.
The toplaner is currently peaking at 1,600 LP, placing him at rank 28. This marks the highest LP ever recorded for Wunder on LoLPros, whose SoloQ data dates back to 2019. His most played champions include Jayce, Ambessa, and Anivia Toplane, showcasing his trademark creativity while also demonstrating practice on newer meta picks such as Ambessa and Aurora.
It is worth noting that professional players often use “hidden accounts” to keep their SoloQ practice private. While it is unknown whether Wunder does so, the account he is currently using appears to be his main, on which he has achieved Challenger in each of the past three years.
Whether these efforts will translate to success on stage remains to be seen. However, if SK Gaming exceeds expectations, especially with Lider reaching rank one during the offseason, the 2026 LEC season could hold more than a few surprises.
