The historic Jungler will return for the series as Malrang moves to support
After an already tumultuous split in the LEC, Rogue’s next week has another mixup for the team to handle. An incident involving support Lee “Execute” Jeong-hoon’s soloqueue behavior has led the player to receive a one-series suspension from Riot Games.
This means that for the upcoming Monday best of three vs. Movistar KOI, Execute will have to sit out. In his stead, Rogue’s assistant coach and former G2 Esports jungler Kim “Trick” Gang-yun will be substituting in, while Kim “Malrang” Geun-song, Rogue’s current starting jungler, will be moving to support for the week.
A storied player returns
Trick has been retired as a player since 2023, when he played one month on Brazilian team Los Grandes. Before that, Trick hadn’t played since his last stint in the LEC, back in 2020 on SK Gaming. But further back, Trick’s most notable years were on G2, where as their jungler from 2016 to 2017, Trick won four back-to-back EU LCS trophies with the team. Over the past two years, Trick has been working as a coach in the EMEA region, working briefly as GIANTX’s strategic coach last year, and now on Rogue as their assistant coach.
Rogue has been struggling to pick up wins for multiple seasons. Placing tenth in the last two splits, the team is currently last place yet again in the current Spring Split of the LEC. This next win vs. MKOI would be crucial for the team’s already very low playoffs chances. Whether or not Trick’s substitution will affect the team’s performance is to be seen on Monday.
