MIBR sayuri: "Last year, we couldn’t play our game at all. [ ...]Today was different. We actually played our game, but we lost in the small details"
Fresh from their defeat in the lower bracket final of the VALORANT Game Changers Championship, following their elimination at the hands of Shopify Rebellion Gold, MIBR GC held a post match press conference with the media. Reflecting on missed details, mental resilience, personal growth was a key focus, and the team provided honest insights into their journey in Seoul.
Question for Nicolas "srN" Niederauer and Paula "bstrdd" Naguil
We’ve seen your confidence since the start of the tournament. You said you wanted not only to win the trophy, but also to be the best player. How do you view your performance at this tournament? Are you satisfied with what you’ve shown over the whole campaign?
srN: "When I said I wanted to be the best player, I wasn’t talking about numbers. I was talking more about posture, about attitude. I believe I showed one of the best mentalities I’ve ever had in my entire career. I gave my best, and I fought until the end, just as my team gave their best and fought until the end. But as was said earlier, today the team that made the fewest mistakes won."
bstrdd: "Even with all the difficulties I’ve faced this year, I believe I’ve grown a lot, both as a person and as a player, and I’m satisfied with that. We’ll see what the future holds, but I’m very happy. I know I will get there one day; I’m sure of it. I have everything I need to reach that level, and that’s it. Even though I’m 30! I’m 25 already, and I’m getting close to retirement age. I’m kidding."
From the outside, the impression is that MIBR may have lost this series to themselves today. You were ahead on Corrode, ahead on Pearl, you had chances to close things out on Abyss, and ended up letting two maps slip away. Is that how it feels to you as well, that MIBR ended up losing to themselves?
bstrdd: I think so. We started very well on all three maps. We were playing at a good level. We knew how we wanted to play against them. We started taking rounds, and then we started losing them. We began to lose confidence in one another, especially on the first map. That was a bit of a warning sign. Even so, we never stopped believing. We know our potential, and we knew we could beat them. But yes, I think, in the end, we lost to ourselves."
Question for Giulia "lissA" Lissa
This is your first Championship. You showed a very solid level and you’ve had a strong tournament overall. How do you feel about your performance at this event?
lissA: "It was fine, but I know I can do better. I don’t really have any regrets. I haven’t fully processed everything yet, but overall I think it was fine.
When you started playing professionally, did you think you would reach this level of competition? Do you think young Lissa would be proud, and what would you say to her?
lissA: I think the young lissA would be proud. And I know I’m proud to be here too, so yes.
What is one of the fondest memories you’re taking away from this championship at Seoul, whether with other players or from the event in general?
lissA: From the moment I arrived in Korea, from the very first day, every memory I’ve made has been special to me. This event as a whole has been very special. I don’t think I can pick just one moment. I would say that one of the most special things for me is simply being able to play in a championship like this and on a stage like this. Overall, it has been a great experience, and I don’t think I can single out one specific thing, but yes, it was really important to me."
Question for Camila "sayuri" Obam
You lost to SRG in the final at Champions last year, and a similar scenario played out today. How would you say the two matches compare?
sayuri: "Last year, we couldn’t play our game at all. We never really got into the match; we just died. We didn’t do anything. Today was different. We actually played our game, but we lost in the small details. At least this time, we weren’t that afraid or overwhelmed. We could actually pick up the mouse and play. We could really play VALORANT."
