G2 or FLY will qualify to quarters
The Round 3 of the Swiss Stage at Worlds 2025 concluded on Sunday, marking the end of all best-of-one matches. From this point forward, every series will be decisive: qualification for the teams standing at 2-1, or elimination for those hanging on at 1-2. So far, KT Rolster and Anyone’s Legend have secured their spots in the Knockout Stage, while Fnatic and PSG Talon have been eliminated from the tournament. With two rounds still to play, the competition will pause for a brief two-day break before resuming on Wednesday, October 22.
As a reminder, the matchups are redrawn after each round, ensuring no rematches occur throughout the Swiss format. Twelve teams remain in contention for the final six spots.
T1 and BLG against the wall
The draw from the previous round put the two finalists of the 2024 Worlds in a delicate position. Gen.G decisively defeated T1 with surprising ease, while G2 Esports avenged themselves against Bilibili Gaming after being eliminated by them in the Swiss Stage for two consecutive years. Thus, Round 4 will see several crucial matchups unfold.
2-1 matchups
G2 Esports vs FlyQuest
Gen.G vs Top Esports
Hanwha Life Esports vs CTBC Flying Oyster
1-2 matchups
BiliBili Gaming vs Vivo Keyd Stars
Movistar KOI vs Team Secret Whales
100 Thieves vs T1
A Western team will go to quarters
Once again this year, the West will send a team to the quarterfinals. G2 and FlyQuest face off for a spot in the quarterfinals. The last time these two teams faced other was at MSI, where FLY 3-0 the Samurai. Once more, G2 now face a situation where they can qualify to quarters and face a NA team, just like when they faced NRG at Worlds 2023 in round 4. It's time for them to break the curse against a worthy opponent and prove EU is better than NA.
The other two BO3s feature a confrontation between Gen.G and Top Esports, a remake of Gen.G's 1-0 victory in the Swiss Stage last year, while the second sees Hanwha Life Esports face CTBC Flying Oyster, a remake of the First Stand from earlier this year.
The draw spared the LPL and the LCK, as T1 and Bilibili Gaming will not meet in Round 4. The LPL champions face Vivo Keyd Stars, who narrowly avoided humiliation in the previous round, while T1 take on the other LTA team, 100 Thieves. Movistar KOI will face what promises to be a very tight match against Team Secret Whales. The first team drawn in each matchup will have the choice of side in game 1.
