Intra-regions matchups will be possible on future rounds
The Play-In stage of the 2025 League of Legends World Championship has concluded, with T1 claiming the final spot in the Main Event, eliminating Invictus Gaming. They join 15 other teams for the Swiss Stage, which kicks off immediately on Tuesday October 15, with eight matchups on opening day.
This year's Swiss Stage features 16 teams battling across five rounds. Matches are drawn at the end of each round, and no rematches are allowed. Teams that reach three wins secure a spot in Stage 3, while those who suffer three losses are eliminated from Worlds contention. Qualification and elimination series will be played in best-of-three format, while all other matches are best-of-one, ensuring fast-paced and unpredictable drama.
No intra-regions matchups were possible
Opening day will be crucial for building momentum, and it’s the only stage where the most one-sided matchups on paper might occur. Below is the initial draw for the first round of the tournament, with new matchups to be determined after each round of the Swiss Stage:
- Vivo Keyd Stars vs Team Secret Whales
- CTBC Flying Oyster vs Fnatic
- KTB Rolster vs Movistar KOI
- BiliBili Gaming vs 100 Thieves
- FlyQuest vs T1
- Hanwha Life Esports vs Anyone's Legend
- G2 Esports vs Top Esports
- Gen.G vs PSG Talon
Gen.G face PSG Talon in a first-ever matchup in League of Legends history, joined by other unprecedented pairings such as Fnatic vs CTBC Flying Oyster, Bilibili Gaming vs 100 Thieves, Vivo Keyd Stars vs Team Secret Whales, and KT Rolster vs Movistar KOI.
It’s a tough opening draw for FlyQuest, who at least had the chance to study T1’s strategies during the inaugural best-of-five of the Play-In stage. G2 are set to meet Top Esports, the team that defeated them 2-0 earlier this year at the Esports World Cup. The two teams also clashed in 2024, when G2 dominated 3-0 in their last meeting at MSI 2024. However, with rosters and team dynamics having shifted since then, this encounter promises a fresh and unpredictable battle.
