CFO could be the first South Asian team to reach the Top 8 at Worlds since Flash Wolves and ahq eSports Club in 2015
The League of Legends 2025 World Championship kicks off in Beijing on the 14th of October. A total of 17 teams will compete to, again, succeed T1 at the top of the Riot Games MOBA world hierarchy. On this occasion, Sheep Esports brings you a daily feature on one of the teams taking part. On October 4th, the seventh episode of our series focuses on CTBC Flying Oyster.
Few teams embody consistency and growth in the LCP like CFO. Since they entered the scene in 2022, the Taiwanese organization has built both a regional and international reputation. Their 2025 season has elevated them into a new category, and they now enter their third Worlds not as underdogs, but as one of the leading teams capable of challenging the giants of the LCK and LPL.
A historic year of domination
2025 has been nothing short of historic for CTBC Flying Oyster. The team achieved a domestic Grand Slam, sweeping every title in their region and cementing themselves as the undisputed kings of the newly created LCP. Internationally, they’ve made a name for themselves as true contenders rather than mere representatives. At the First Stand tournament, CFO turned heads by defeating Karmine Corp, Top Esports, and Team Liquid — a trio of regional powerhouses no one expected them to overcome that easily. Their remarkable MSI run further solidified their reputation, even pushing T1 to a full five-game series in one of the most thrilling matches of the Mid Season Invitational.
Such results are no accident. Since the middle of the Spring Split, CFO have scrimmed a lot against top-tier LCK and LPL teams, sharpening their level against the very best. It was Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang who said on stream in July that Ninjas in Pyjamas had been stomped by CFO, joking that it made him question whether he had become bad at the game himself. He also added that T1 should thank Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon for saving them in Game 5 at MSI.
Their head coach, Wong "Chawy" Xing Lei, explained they were learning a lot from top teams from Korea. He said to Pedro Romero's interview at MSI 2025: "By scrimming them, we are learning so much. Sometimes, our crazy, aggressive playstyle helps us win the early and midgame, but somehow we can't manage to win a closer game, because LCK teams are so great at their macro, how they play the map, and swap resources when they are behind. That is something that we take away from the scrims."
Their commitment to progression and competitive rigor has paid off — they now reach Worlds 2025 as the only team in the world to have attended all three major international events this season. It’s a testament to both their dominance at home and their relentless pursuit of excellence abroad.
A flawless six-man roster
"Don’t underestimate CFO—just sit back and watch us." Those were the words of Tsai "HongQ" Ming-Hong in his interview with Sheep Esports at MSI. The 18-year-old midlaner has been the breakout star of 2025, delivering one of the most impressive rookie seasons in recent memory. His mechanical prowess, creative playmaking, and unwavering confidence have drawn comparisons to legendary prodigies — with some even claiming his debut year surpasses Rasmus "Caps" Winther's 2017 debut. HongQ’s impact has been immediate and game-changing, making him a talent destined to shape the Pacific region for years to come.
Behind him stands Yu "JunJia" Chun-Chia, the veteran presence anchoring this young roster. As the team’s metronome, the jungler brings balance and direction to CFO’s explosive style. A proven veteran and one of the most accomplished players in PCS history, his performances often dictate the outcome for the team. When Flying Oyster win, it’s usually because JunJia has created a massive jungle gap through his timing, control, and leadership. Even on the international stage, he continues to hold his own against elite competition, confirming his stature as one of the region’s greats.

Completing the trio of stars is Chiu "Doggo" Tzu-Chuan, the carry and emotional anchor who has rediscovered his best form. After a difficult time in the LPL, he’s bounced back stronger than ever, becoming the reliable late-game threat CFO can always depend on. His synergy with his support, composure under pressure, and ability to turn fights around have made him the face of the team — and the symbol of CTBC Flying Oyster’s resurgence.
All of this is supported by CFO’s rare six-man roster, featuring two strong toplaners who offer strategic flexibility and allow the team to adapt their style to different opponents, further enhancing their threat level on the biggest stage.
